it seems that after not practicing for like 4 days i get back on the decks and all my mixes suck!!!! how discouraging...could it be that i lost the touch or is it just another one of those days? |

happens to me all the time after having a decent amount of time away from the decks. though i usually categorize it as losing, not loosing. :p |

its like riding a bike.
you'll lose some balance but after an hour or so you'll be right back at where you left off |

happens to me on vinyl... not so much on digital |

Happens to everyone. Especially infront of a crowd after being away for a little while. First mix might be a bit touchy, then right back on track ;) |

Skills you don't use, you can lose touch after a while. |

Yes I was just talking about this on djforums.
I started off solely as a turntablist (scratch dj) and for a year I honed my skill only in turntablism. Then I discovered other forms of music and decided the only way I would reach my goal of having an hour or so to play a set was to learn how to mix. So anyway for awhile I practiced both scratching and mixing. Now I tried to practice scratching after a year and a half absence and I completely sound like trash. I can baby scratch, one click flare, and crab scratch but my combos sound like complete and utter trash like someone who has never DJ'd before. So yes you can lose skill. I'm sure the same applies to mixing.
The golden rule is if you don't use it you lose it. (my Latin professor taught me that) |

You just get rusty, but it's easy to pick back up again.
It's as simple as that.

Seriously though, depending on the break it can be good to take time off.
Zild can you give me some tips on scratching? Good co-ordination practices etc, good battle records? |
