Hello,
I'm starting to work on full tracks now, I've been making melodies for several months. Just wondering if there is anything bad about this kick, or also the bass, these are just like 15 second samples at 320Kbps mp3:

...and maybe a little better this one (more punch to the kick):

don't mind the percs, they were just thrown in with a dab of EQ.
I set the release of the bass to end just as the kick comes in.
Not sure if these levels are correct. If anyone else has questions about their kicks and bass, post the links here.

Thanks!

Kick has too much mids.
jey
all sounds a bit lifeless....
verdonsky
Thanks for the feedback!

jey, what would make the kick+bass not sound lifeless. I actually wanted to know if they were just good sounding sounds, and not necesarily good musically. I took out some mids:

no it doesn't sound decent! but don't be afraid, bass and kick is one of the hardest part to get tight..
verdonsky
thanks for feedback thecYrus, Any suggestions on the kick?

it's very hard to recommend something as this depends a lot on your ears. you need to get the feeling and right ear for this whole thing. this will come over time with practise. you need to chose the perfect bassdrum sample and need to build a bassline sound which really fits to the bassdrum.. it's just learning by doing.

everybody needs to start from the beginning and learn this things. and i'm sure you'll get better results everytime you start with a new tune.

One reason the kick isn't good is because i'm using Senn280's and not a good set of studio monitors. I am using the free thrillseeker's kick sample btw.

i dont know what samples u hav but vengeance clubsounds is a good start, then with trial an error eqing youll get some good sound but it wont happen over night, do alot of research, search this forum, ive learnt a load from this forum!!

heres a wee sample with only vengeance, made in 10mins now im far from a pro and somes of the guys on here will laugh at it but compare it to ur own and then ask ur self how urs sounds.....

eqed, some delay,reverb panning,compression

Thanks jey, you guys rock. I used the Thrillseekers free giveaway sample from their forum.

Here is what it sounds like with almost no EQ and some compression:

Love your sample. Sounds like mine has too much bass, and is too loud.

I'm currently trying to work at sounding "produced". I've been doing melodies and arrangements far far too long too count. Much of it classical.

How many bands do you typially need on a kick? I did a high pass at 40hz, a high pass at 16khz, a notch at around 800 for the last one.
