See if they turn you away!!
If they do..then you have a story!!! |
i agree. find some black lawyers dressed in armani and see if they get in. (i doubt they would have any problems)
that would be a story.
this sort of discrimination goes both ways tho. if you find a white dude brave enough to walk up to a club that is purely black, there is no way in hell they would let him in. he would probably piss his pants before even getting to talk to the bouncer. |

ok point taken...
but i've been turned away from clubs..because i was wearing snickers
and my ID wasn't good enough
and my clothes didn't fit they's liking
While some people just like me were let in..
I went home dressed up and What do you know I was let in without a problem... |

last night there was one guy that walked past me, saw me at the corner of his eye and did a full u-turn just to ask me "hey, buddy, do you have any cocaine?" i was very close to slapping him before i sent him away. |
Yo that's nothing ... everytime i go out ppl ask me if i have any drugs. Even from the days i was a full out raver in the gears.
ing annoying. |

Even I have been asked, and in my honest opinion, I think I look the least likly to be a drug dealer. |

ok ill be the calgary ambassador now
Not gonna deny that there is racism here, but dont say there isnt in TO either, it sucks, it happens bla bla bla.
Dressed the way they were, there was NO WAY anybody would get into 2 of those clubs unless they showed the bouncer a bill.
2 of them have 25+ signs posted for their saturday night events. Not always enforced, but ive been denied before when I was dressed proper.
1 (the violent bouncer) is the exception. They let most anybody in. They 100% were discriminated against there.
the bar they DID get into is the bar that sparked this whole racism in calgary nightlife thing a year ago, so props to them for changing. But dont try going there w/ facial piercings, you likely wont get in.
like one of the places they tried to go is the equivalent of sumo??(the place 1 block up from where system used to be) You dont get in there unless you are well dressed period. |

um...that's 100% irrelevant to this story.
the point is that the bouncers CLAIMED that they were denying them entry for those reasons...yet cameras clearly showed that was not the case...because they let in people RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM who were wearing the similar clothing and were also under 25.
the difference is that the people they let in were white.
it is not illegal to discriminate on the basis of clothing...it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of race.
I've been denied entry at hole bars in Toronto for wearing "skate shoes" and my first time to the old Boa, was told that shorts weren't allowed (it was 30+ degrees outside)...they grudgingly let me in and many people inside had shorts on.
that's ty...but not illegal.
as for letting woman in regardless of age, or letting them in for free...while denying men entry, or charging them cover. I would file a complaint with the appropriate parties in a heartbeat if I ever personally experienced that (thankfully, I don't patronize hole establishments like those). That is discrimination on the basis of sex and is clearly illegal.
Can you imagine a restaurant or store trying to charge a guy more for the same burger or book than they would to a woman? There would be a huge public outcry...so I'm stunned that bars/clubs get away with that kind of . |

You know what, I'm glad you brought that up - I agree. How come women don't try to fight for equality there? Imagine the hubbub feminists would raise if it was vice versa. |

There is gender discrimination all over the place. Think of the hair salons for example. I pay about 20-40 dollars more for a haircut than my roomie, and yet, we have about the same length hair. How is that fair?
What about clothes? Huge difference in price for practically the same things, beside the size difference.
"Ladies Night" at the bars... women get in free. Men are more likly to be paid more for a job that a woman can do just as well.
That's the way it is. Sometimes men get the perks, sometimes women do. I personally hate it, and think it's total bull, but these things are "allowed", so what can I really do or say about it?
LOL @ Cosmic... yea the spiky hair might give me a little edge. |

lol, I was *just* about to post some of those reverse examples, like the hair cut thing.
it definitely goes both ways, I agree.
it's interesting to see how discrimination is passively tolerated in some areas, but not in others.
while there are *some* reasonable examples, IMHO (like women-only gyms)...most are ridiculous. |

i went to lot332 a few weeks ago on a friday wearing my usual jeans, tshirt and hat. i was carrying my camera and was looking for the guestlist girl. a bouncer standing near the curb starts yelling at me "you are not dressed for the club. you cannot come in. no hats and no jeans and you need a collared shirt." so i started walking away towards this is london and decided to call andrew. he told me to find him at the door and as i was being escorted in to the club, the bouncer was just staring me down but he couldnt do a single thing about it. what a in momo. that bouncer must've been new or something.
