Alright well this review comes from a fellow crackhead who's always in search of good tripping music. I dled this on the 11th of last month, listened to about 20 minutes of the set, then turned it off. I was really into the first track, but then it just got dull for me. However it usually takes several listens for me to really judge a set, so that in mind, I played it while at work a few days later. I got to about Deer in the Headlights, then turned it off again. I just really can't get into that song, as trippy and different as it sounds. Waited another few days, got stoned to some delicious Snowcap weed, and finally played the set in its entirety. Needless to say, I was quite amazed. The mixing was done rather well throughout the entire thing, and has a good flow and build-up. I still believe Deer in the Headlights sort of veers away from the warm and vibrant electro house sounds prominent throughout the set, but hey, if I can only complain about 1 song in this mix, then that means I enjoyed it very much.

But then I put it to one final test. I was planning on doing acid that Friday night and was rummaging through various psy sets that I wanted to hear, and thus thought that Centrum would be a wonderful set to comedown too. It would be an abrupt change from all the full-on/midnight psy I'm used to hearing while tripping, but it would be a welcome change, hopefully. I ate two tabs, smoked some extremely potent dank, and ing fried balls a few hours later. I explored a desert inside my friend's spare bedroom, danced with a coyote, escaped from a pack of vicious nomads hiding out inside the hardwood floor, and before I knew it, 6 hours later and bam! Centrum was playing! Now I've never been to this town or even gone to the Netherlands before in my life, but I swear to you, I was there that night. From walking down the streets of this city and hearing tourists talking in a variety of languages, to lounging in coffee shops, bookstores, a train station, and a few other sights I just can't remember. Even for a time I was imagining myself chatting it up with some random Dutch dude in the back porch of his house sharing a joint. And then it all got ruined briefly, when Deer in the Headlights came on. All I could picture for the next 15 minutes was the most psychotic looking deer I've ever seen staring me down before finally disappearing in the label of a Jagermeister bottle. :wtf: After that I wasn't quite able to get back into the Imaginary Centrum world that I had created, but overall, it was a very good trip and a fitting end to a rather fun and hilarious night. I still play this set about once a week and have given a few friends copies as well. Great work Rob, can't wait for your next one.

Just had to read it one more time and quote it... to make sure I was reading it :wtf: I think that's about as close to tripping as I'll ever reach in this lifetime :stongue: Interesting read regardless!

great set. All these tracks are not what I typically listen to and I don't know any of them, but I thoroughly enjoyed this set. The dane cook bootleg is a pretty innovative idea. I'm also surprised why many people seemed to think Deer in the Headlights was a bad choice for this mix. I thought it was a great one-time diversion into trippy sounds that gives this mix an edge. I think that's a characteristic of all great sets - you have to have a track or two that are very different, and just sort of take the mix in a new direction for a little while, but at the same time not ruining the flow entirely. A good example: Oakie mixing in Vangelis - Rachel's Song into CD2 of Another World ...

Thanks for that. Gotta love the Internet. This set has probably been played all over the globe now. Will review Random Summer as soon as I can. But don't expect another acid trip review. My friends made me promise them I'd lay off hallucinogens for awhile. Damn, the downside of having friends who care too much for you. :stongue:

And?

Amsterdam's "Centrum" area is one of the most well known tourist spots in the world - And known specifically as "Amsterdam Centrum" to much of the international community in a manner that not many folks outside of Denmark would think of Copenhagen Centrum and so on... :)
