You know what? This is GREAT news for SF!!!!

Cause there was one time his LA sets were always "OK" and then his SF sets the next night would be FO SHIZZLE MY NIZZLE.

I used to go down to LA like all the time for PvD then back to SF for him...before my main TA days. His SF sets were much better 90% of the time. :)

i had musicians ear plugs on. this was the first time i have ever used these and they totally saved my ears. absolutley no ringing afterwards. i highly recommend them to anyone who goes to clubs often. they only cost $150 for the pair. how can you even put a price on your hearing especially since everyone on this board really loves music and being able to listen to it. for those that dont know, you have to go to an audiologist and have an impression of your ear made and 2 weeks later you get your custom plugs. i went for the -25db attenuating filters. it works for me.

Not surprised at all by these reviews. Basically what I've been saying about PvD for a while now...

Much better producer than DJ, so I'm curious whether he played his new track "Complicated." Feedback, anyone?

i was pretty bored most of pvd's set. he had the songs that i liked and then the ones i didnt but his set was like a really really slow heart beat. just wanst something i really enjoyed. i had a good time overall but the set i have from him in my car is better than last night. oh well. thank god im seeing rank 1 tonight!

nice to see all the TAs i saw about. and i agree the SE was MIA. the highs were a bit high but overall the sound was quite crisp. they changed the layout a bit since i was last there (a year ago). they removed the couches and chairs that were inside and then the patio they partially enclosed some of the sitting areas and also changed the furniture they had out there. previously they had some bed type of seating out there now they have just couches.

as i said before i had an overall good time but pvd was boring. he played some stupid ass song so out of spite i asked him to play "The Killers - Mr Brightside" but he read it and shook his head. i laughed and so did woody.

Dunno who the first DJ was, but too many remixes of pop style diva mixes for me. Jerry Bonham took over and the change in the atmosphere was immediate and intense, almost seemed like I was listening to a Digweed set for awhile.

Paul came on at 1 a.m. and I really enjoyed most of his set from beginning to end. If a DJ plays uplifting arms-in-the-air Trance the entire night, then my arms get tired...lol

One thing that I noticed when I visited Germany earlier this year was that the people there seem to be very open to different styles of music. It wasn't like Electro or House is in and Trance is over or vice-versa, there were a lot of different styles of music and every room was packed!

Dunno what to say about the K vs A song played twice though, seemed like the same version to me also. Maybe it was just a f*ck up, I'm sure that I've done worse... ;)

I actually feel kinda sorry for the world's #1 DJ in any given year, they're held to such a high standard and elevated in status above the Greek gods. I really don't think that Paul's letting the votes go to his head, he's happy to be there, but it really doesn't matter that much. It's all about having fun and enjoying the music...I did! :D

Was a little disappointed seeing the flyers for his next night at Vanguard on Nov 24th with "tickets now on sale" printed at the bottom, cause I checked online and there aren't any yet. Anyway, I'll def. be there! :)

At least the cool thing is he will be playing again in November...so it will be good comparison. Very rare to see someone like PvD do a "residency" pair of dates in a short time like Sasha.

akhhhhhhhhh wut i would give for MAY 05 again....

Hey SCG - that was me with the good karma =)

Yes, he played K&A - Are you fine 2x, which I thought was weird. I can do with out hearing the classiv PVD songs at the end, but that let us get out of there before everyone else.

This was my first time at Vanguard, I have to say I am impressed with the lighting, the size of the patio, I thought the sound was loud, but I didn't need earplugs, and hadno ringing the next day. My girlfriend acutally felt the sound was good, and had no problems. Keep in mind, we stayed in the balcony until last call at 1:45 to make sure we got out money's worth. It turned out to be beneficial becasue she wore boots and needed to sit down, and kick the boots off to dance. (She's Brazilian and is surprised to see how in LA people where pretty regular clothes at trance shows (minor exception to the Hollywood crowd at Avalon) so she is now forbidden by me to wear anything but sneakers!

Also...I never really understood what the hell you guys were talking about as far as washing machines and "washers"...but now I know. It's friggin ridiculous! what the hell is wrong woith these people? Also I didn't feel the crowd was very diverse. That's obviously not what I am there for, but I Guess that creates for more "washing machines".

I felt PVD had his moments, but there weren't a ton of them. I felt he lost me in the end. Overall had a good time, but I think VIP made things much more enjoyable, and we got our money's worth.

p.s. Jon and Tony it was nice to meet you. If you ever find yourself heading over to Brazil, consider me your TA resource!

Hey guys, just saw PvD in San Francisco last night. I just read you guys' reviews and noticed something pretty funny. He also played "Kyau vs. Albert - Are You Fine" TWICE as well!! What's up with that? He dropped it once the first hour and later on. Coincidence? Doesn't sound like it. :conf: He started off with melodic/uplifting trance then went into more progressive and tech. But honestly, it sounded like he played the same sort of set he did in LA... someone commented about how he killed the bass, raised the highs, and raised the bass again which got really repetitive. He did that quite a bit last night in SF too. He finished it off with "For an Angel" and "Time of our Lives" which got me pumped up though!

IMO PVD is a musical genious but not a performer. Thus making him an awesome producer but never really puts on a good show worthy of being called the #1 dj in the world.. Hope he proves me wrong at monster massive.

I doubt anyone saying this has seen him in NYC or Berlin, where he seems to play his best sets.
