and what BOOsTER says, it's illegal to sell someone elses melody. some big lawyers (especially from big artists like tiesto, ..) could make your life real hard. so i would only sell own melodies as you don't pay license or don't own the copyright in a way from those famous melodies. |

Haha, ok I think I need to make a few things clear about the midi. It seems Im causing havoc here.
Ok, so lets take this step by step and look at what is illegal and what is not.
Taking something thats for free and selling it is ILLEGAL, however creating something from scratch and selling it is I believe not.
Now, I have not gone to some midi site, took the free midi, used it in the demo, and selling it. No.
I have litsened to the tune 100 times over (EQ'd it differently so i can hear the lower/higher notes better, muted the left/right channels to hear the delay better and so forth) figuring out the midi with lots of hard work by ear.
Now, stealing means taking a piece of code or a piece of information thats not yours. However the midi that I have laid out was NOT taken from any of the artists, and the midi propably doesnt sound 100% correct, and thats just good because if it would be 100% correct that means it would be the original which equals stealing.
YES, the melody is not mine, however I have never claimed it mine either, plus the melody is just a moral value. Then when you think about it, it would be even illegal for me to recreate the specific "sound" since its the artists sound.
Originally I only wanted to sell the flp Project file, but then I realised that not everyone has fl studio and other people would also like to analyze the midi, therefore I made the midi as well. And talking about analysing, the midi data is only for educational purposes anyway, and I dont think anyone would abuse it. (Plus if they dont know that the melody has been used, and makes a tune with that melody and releases the tune, he will feel like an ass when he realises that the melody has been used before.)
To make this discussion a bit more clear think this way:
I invent something, and its secret I dont tell the ingredients and its all mine! Fine good for me. However if someone is smart enough to figure out the ingredients used on his own, I cannot sue the guy for being too smart can I?
To wrap this up, I think the artists ahould be greateful instead, for me advertising their tune for free :)
I hope you guys understand now that I dont mean to harm or offend anyoneone or do anythign illegal, Im just trying to help create a better world, by giving help to new producers that I never got. After all, wouldnt you all like to have the midi from the vengeance stuff to see how they were made? ;) |

tralalalala...just too much words because you just could've used different wording.
I mean...why not say...hmmm..."for the price you'll get the bank and as a free bonus you get the midi for the demo"
or something along those lines...I didn't want to cause such a havoc here...I just wanted to tell you to be carefull a little more...
certainly...you have a good point...but if we go to extremes "re-creating someone else's melody for selling it, would be like debugging a program's code...therefore...whatever figure out mate...
I'm just saying...smarter wording would be better maybe would pay out to you a little more :) |

agree with booster.
whether or not you got the midi's from johnsteenbergen or made them yourself(which i dont believe). you cant make money off someone elses melody its not yours to sell even if you did recreate it. and theres midi free sites all over the net therefore if it was legal to sell them all those sites would be selling them. |

dj_kane: Why do you think I havent made them myself? The midi you can find at the free sites, didnt generate themselves. Someone sat down and transcribed them. Why couldnt I do that myself?
Anyway this thing is going off course and the readers are getting the image that im somekind of goddamn serial murderer criminal. Im not gonna start a debate like some kindergarden kid about what wrong and what not.
Thank you booster for warning me and forget what i said before and now im officially saying "you will get the midi as a bonus" :) |
