I'd be interested to know how you went about it.
Getting a portfolio together to present to investors etc?? Any advice would be much appreciated :) |

There's alot of factors when it comes to business. First off you need to decide what type of business you want to do, product or service oriented?
I have a full time professional career and I just started an e-business with a few global partners.
and yes I'm on TA and consider myself a reputable business owner |

No, because you're a n00bl4r.
Oh, and the business? The hotel industry (yes, crazy I know, but) I have a few good ideas ;) |

Well I'm not exactly sure what you want to do in terms of hotel business, but I think the first thing you need to do is make sure you have the capital to purchase and develop the land as well as the desired location for people to be vacating too.
Next I would say you'd be better off on a franchise of hotel lines versus building the latest and greatest.
That is in the terms of say owning your own hotel and such. I would imagine owning and running one to not be as lucrative as you think since it's a highly maintence demanding service where you pay people to maintain the grounds in and around the hotel as well as servicing the rooms.
Again, this is another seasonal business where you'll do well in certain season contingent on location etc.
Service ran businesses are much more complicated then say a product driven business because your only avenue of income is to entice people to stay at yours versus the handful of others. Where as a product driven business has more avenues of income and allows you a better set of metrics to analyze your business on. Hotel/service industry I would imagine only profits from the amount of people stay at your hotel and the amenities that are included/sold at your hotel. |

| I have my hands in a couple different things, but you really need to put yourself out there. I hope you are an extrovert. Because you are gonna be stressed out like a bitch owning a business; no matter what kind is going to be stressful. So take your time, breathe and focus on the task at hand and in time you will have what you want. Trust me it worked for me. But just remember patience, patience, and more patience.;) |

Thanks for the replies!
The way I figure it at the moment, is to spend a fair amount of money on creating a pitch. Talking to market analysts, investment advisers, solicitors etc. I then take it to various investors.
Now I know investors aren't keen to invest if you're only going risk their money and not their own, but short of waiting about 40 years, I don't see any other way. I could tell them that I'm risking personal assets!!
But yeah, I've got some ideas as to why my hotel chain would be better than any of the big chains currently operating out there. |
