So... A year or so ago, I installed a second HD in my computer. It was partitioned in to two separate drives (D: and E:)
Ocasionally an issue comes up - I start my computer and D: is for some reason seen as a removable drive (when I go to My Computer and double-click the drive, it tells me to insert a disk into drive D: ) :wtf:
Whenever this happens (and it is very sporadic, maybe once or twice a month) I can tell immediately, as upon loading windows it seems to consume a load of the initial system resources (the mouse pointer has a bunch of lag and I can hear the HD whiring away like it's doing something intense.) and this takes about 5+ minutes to chill out.
You guys have any ideas? Running XP Pro.
Cheers. :) |

Yes, the HD is set to slave (checked that) but it's only one of the partitions that is [occasionally] seen as a removable drive. :conf: |

Yeah, it s me what's going on. It's not too big of a deal, all I have to do is reset once or twice and its sorted. I just always kinda wondered what the hell it was about.
Thanks anyway guys. :) |

Just a thought... have you got a wireless adapter in the back? Sometimes it reads that as removeable storage when it's just a wireless adapter.
It even does it with webcams and non-connected digital cameras :wtf: |

Nope, no wireless adapter. Its just one partition that XP occasionally reads as a removable disk. |

| Did you format the disk as NTFS or FAT 32? XP needs to read it as NTFS |
