Intros bad, intros good

Can't help but feel that sometimes an intro is designed specifically so that it is easier to mix and thereby increase the likelihood of it getting played. IMO Airbase -escape is a good example of an absolute peach of an intro but its a sod to mix. On the other hand some tracks, notably solid globe - north pole are a doddle to mix.

Am i being too cynical?

yes. Try listening to some psytrance tunes, they have hugely long intros, but when mixed well layer perfectly. If you can't do it, you're not trying hard enough :)

Can you recommend anything? I feel I need to practice more

to be honest, you've gotta mix what you feel, so for me to recommend wouldn't be very helpful, cos if you don't like it, you won't be able to put the required effort in. the tune you mentioned in your first post, just experiment a bit, until you find something you can fit in with

I think that intro tracks in general have a very short life, no1 wants to be starting their sets with the same track over & over.

Synergy 'Hello Strings' was fantastic because it could be used as an intro but also had a an extended beats section so that it could be mixed aswell.

Some tune are sods to mix yeah, one with a bass line or a breakdown around 20 seconds after the beats come in are s. Really gotta know your tracks and timing well for those to sound good.

I've learned through experience that Andain - Beautiful Things is a very hard track to mix...it's hard to get it to blend right. If you don't do it right you end up with a monster trainwreck :eyespop:

Are you kidding? It's by far the easiest track I've ever mixed - you can mix it with just about anything.

I was just thinking that as I read it.. :p It and Flashdance are two of the easiest tunes to mix.

Even worse are tracks that change pitch slightly :whip: ...or tracks that suddenly disappear when you're blending the outro nicely :p
