in Berlin when the trains rans overnight they had the same number of cars, but they did come about every 20-30mins. the benefit was that they also had the train timers so passengers knew when each train was arriving and could pick and choose which line they wanted to take to get home. obviously this wouldn't work as well in TO since we only have 2 major lines running but nonetheless i still think there's a demand for it.

bars should also be able to make more money now that everyone won't be rushing to get outta there by 1am in order to catch the last train home..

for us people in york region, it would be more helpful if we had 24 hour bus service, since we have a way to get to finch during the night anyway.

i think everyone everywhere needs better service all around. So lets support this and hope that it leads to even more improvement.

PS: today is anti-car day. Um i mean leave the car at home day.

Which is all fine and dandy if we had viable alternatives.

hahah vomit comet.

of course we need a 24 hr line. think of all the people who could finally get home from work. [instead of cabbing it]

better for me! I can park at kipling and take any job i want knowing public transport won't be a problem!

yes, i'm all for this!!

Goodnet concurs that 24 hour subways would be a great idea.

how would a 24-hour subway would address this problem, when there's night buses going all the way to Steeles?

It's about ing time. Obviously the people in this thread who say it's pointless have not taken the vomet comet enough times to know how much of an unpleseant experience it is. In the winter, a lot of times I won't even bother going out knowing that I have to take the comet home.

Dude I've taken night buses/streetcars more times than you can imagine. Not just after parties, but the gazillion times I've finished work past 1am and was forced to take a streetcar home. The travel time was always nearly identical. Other than comfort level I don't really see that much of a difference.

I think there's bigger priorities on the TTC's hands at the moment, such as maybe developing the current train system so more area's are accessible via light rail, which would in turn eliminate the need for buses, thus creating less traffic problems. Punctuality is another problem they really need to work on. Like I said though, extending the service until ~3:00AM would make a lot more sense than 24-hour service.

This is *necessary* for the city, IMHO. Most of downtown is a ghost town by 1am and 24 hour subway service would help remedy that, IMHO.

It blows my mind that our subway doesn't even run until last call...how ridiculous!

I hate waiting for blue night buses and taking such long routes to get home...or wasting $$ on cabs. If this is implemented then it would be awesome. I'm not too worried about safety...

I guess I came off a bit harsh there. Sorry Peter, lol.

I do agree that all of those things do need improvement, but the amount of resources needed to create light rail routes as opposed to keeping current routes open 24hrs is not comparable.

Also, I think what it comes down to is what each of us values more as a customer. There is no point in arguing over that because what someone values will change from person to person.

that's true.. keeping the subway operating 24/7 isn't going to break the bank like trying to fund an entire new system comprised of LRT and additional subway stations.

let's not forget that this city IS spending something like $300k / year on those noise bi-law officers .. :wtf:
