happy (belated?) birthday!

too bad you didn't come out to San Francisco for Love Festival, it was amazing although I'm sure you did something pretty cool wherever in the world you flew off to.

by far the best part of the love festival, in my opinion, was the preparty I went to:

the LoveLee party featuring Lee Burridge @ Mezzanine.

opening for Lee were Spesh and Scott Carelli, who played a set that was a perfect warmup, didn't steal Lee's thunder at all and got everyone dancing, although they were so good they could easily be billed as headliners.

Then Lee Burridge himself came on at about 1AM and played for 3 hours, and all I can say is the man is SICK. He played some of the absolute dirtiest music I've ever heard in a club, a couple songs I recognized from Digweed live sets and the like but mostly just dark, twisted, scary, and awesome stuff.

Lee is the best party DJ I think I've ever seen play live. Other people have played perhaps more musical sets, that I've appreciated for other reason, but he played a party set like no other. And he always had this look on his face that let you know that he was about to kick your ass but you had NO CLUE what was coming next. All you knew is that it was going to be awesome. There was always a build, never letting down, just getting more and more amazing. The 2nd to last song he played was one of the most emotional moments I've experienced in my time clubbing. The dirty house melted into soft breaks, and then into FURRY PHREAKS - SOOTHE (CHICANE MIX) :eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop:

After that, I went to afterhours at The Endup for a couple hours while I waited for the trains to start running again, where I don't know who was playing 70's style disco/deep house sounding tracks. Back to Stanford for a few hours of sleep, then back on the train to catch the last few hours of the Love Parade. I was exhausted from the night before, but it was still fun to walk around and see the sights and sounds. I spent a good bit of time by the Spundae/Skills/Beatport float, found the float with Luke Fair on it, and the one with Lee Burridge (no clue which ones those were though). I didn't go to the official afterparty because I'm not really a trance fan and the only artist on the lineup that interested me was Junkie XL. So, instead I went to Anu Lounge and saw Lee Burridge and some others for a couple hours, then got on the last train back to Stanford before they closed for the night, exhausted but happy.

So if you can, come next year, and definitely get here a day early for the pre-parties.

yeah that's one thing i can say, the lighting was definitely better where you were, Nicole. And i've heard that Eddie Halliwell is incredible, he's definitely on my list of people to see, so it looks like you had a good birthday after all.

and zeonfiend: Nice doesn't even begin to describe that song
