Bleh!! i'm in a bad dry spell ..and i started working on a track without writing a main melody for the chorus. Well..i got alot of good responses on my track so far..and now..i'm having a hard time with my breakdown.Trying to be ..hmm original? or hoping to wow the listener..i was wondering which approach should i take?
1-intro pad..then lush pads..some small texture melody..then intro the lead
2-have everything die down..and then low pass filter the main lead in
3..bleh i don't know? lol

I would really appreciate it if someone can give me some hints on how to make a good breakdown.

heres my clip.

i opt for the stereotypical filtered saw pad with arpeggio and sweeps (the huge rank1-airwave chills down the spine style)

You could try the surprise aproach. It works best with loud eurphoric leads.
What I mean is, you start filtering in a lighter version of the lead synth and then bring in the whole unfiltered lead in a bang. (Reverbed kick and crash)
See the remix in my signature for an example. :)

i should cut out the string at 2:50, probebly the best you can do.
and fade out hihats, leaving the melody in, and put another complex melody on top of it (because there`s almost none in it)
go wild :-D
when hihat fades out in that stringless part almost immidiatly, long fade complex melody in,
from 3:01 the party can be on its top. with all elements in it.
make a wild panning snare about 2 / 3 seconds before it.

maybe you ask yourself why i tell this to do so fast, it`s because of the almost 3 minute intro.
you don`t have enough time left to show the real melodys and get something starting.

but maybe you want to keep it relaxed (and maybe make it longer), i don`t know what you like, you decide.

Maybe do a quick break down? Introduce a part of you lead like maybe the first two beats. Tease us, and drop like a 16 bar breakdown that builds up to the full lead. Where you track cuts out, try keeping the kick and percs, take out the bass though. Now maybe slow introduce the melody while fading out the kickdrum.

My two cents....
