Activate and Make It Funky present
'Halloween Funk'

with 3 rooms of mayhem!

The Main Event:

The Amen-Ra of Universal Hip Hop Culture
Father of the Electro Funk Sounds

Afrika Bambaataa
NYC | Tommy Boy Records | KLB | VH1 2006 Hip Hop Honors
Named by LIFE Magazine as one of the MOST IMPORTANT Americans of the 20th Century, Afrika Bambaataa is a Musical visionary, DJ extraordinaire, living legend and founder of the Zulu Nation. Afrika Bambaataa has done more for the culture and music of hip-hop than most could dream of. In fact, he's actually the person responsible for coining the term "Hip Hop" in reference to the movement. The man behind Hip Hop/Electro Funk classic 'Planet Rock' over the years has worked with everyone from James Brown, to George Clinton, to Boy George, to Tribe Called Quest and even ex-Sex Pistol John Lydon among MANY others.
Bambaataa's futuristic soundscapes have taken listeners by surprise, becoming a major influence in the development of not only hip-hop, but Techno and House music as well. Recent collaberations have seen him co-produce tracks with the likes of Leftfield and Uberzone among others. Still extremely active, he continues to record, tour and educate, maintaining his status as a living legend and forefather of the art.
On October 17th, Bam will be honored for his incredible achievements by VH1 at the annual 'Hip Hip Honors' show. Fellow honorees this year include The Beastie Boys, Russell Simmons, MC Lyte, Wu Tang Clan, Rakim, Eazy-E and Ice Cube.

very interesting...this just complicated my Halloween weekend plans.

I decided to skip Destiny @ Docks thanks to AP headlinging (f them) and figured on Beyer @ 99 Subury...but...this party would be very very cool.

decisions, decisions...

only 6 out of 13 DJs on the bill are "breaks" ;)

Bambaataa is NOT what you would consider a break beat DJ. He does play some break beat oriented music, but his sound cannot be classified IMO. He plays Hip Hop, Breaks, Electro, Funk, Soul, and even some House and Techno... the one usually constant trait being FUNKY.

do some reading up on him. Then come out on the 28th and become enlightened ;)

Bambaataa is true living legend
