How did you pay for the rent? If you paid by check, ask your bank to send banking statements, with a copy (front and back) of the checks you used, to pay your rent. However, if you paid by cash, you're screwed. I never pay in cash, unless it's required for payment. If so, I always demanded a receipt, upon payment. I had to pay by cash, when I rented a house on Long Island, and I made sure the receipt was written in front of me, before I paid my rent and security deposits.

Unfortunately I was 17 and stupid, and didn't realize that paying with cash would me over royally in the end. I have no proof that I even paid my rent, let alone how much. If I had, I would have presented bank statements to my accountant ages ago.

oh theresa there is so much hate in your life. those women study classes have gotten you over your head. make nice and move on with your life.

Normally your smart ass comments just make me snicker, or shake my head, but this one actually got under my skin. You have no idea why there was hate in regard to this man, and if you had the slightest clue, I am sure you would understand and most likely adopt the same feelings. So do me a favour and stfu. Kthxbye.

i'm not a pro at these kinda letters or whatever like i guess some people in the this are if they do it for a living, but i could maybe help you write it theresa if no one else is willing. i would need some more info about the situation though... as far as how much you paid in rent and for how long etc...

In addition to the letter writing itself, I reccomend sending this via Canada's version of certified mail. Youll at least have proof that he has received the letter and he wont be able to ignore it unless he wants to appear in front of a judge.

Ittl cost a couple bucks but this extra layer of security is sure worth it

I wrote all the template formal letters at my old place of work. They were hot, and were forwarded to other local departments in the business for use too.

So, I could. But I just plain don't like you. :)

, formal letters aren't my style, and I am all "formal lettered" out for today because I just wrote a letter to my governor (Kicks ass IMO). But, I could write a letter that could make your landlord cry, and possibly feel sorry for you, I'm a good writer, and I can be very descriptive.

just send it registered mail. that way if he doesnt give you receipts you have record of him recieving the letter and ignoring it, hten you send a leter to the CCRA. and they him in the arse

The women’s study was a little over the top, but the rest of my post was spot on. I've noticed a pattern of behavior in your previous posts that points to you having an adversarial approach to the world. Your angry reply further enforces my opinion of you.

You sound like those ppl who go into Judge Judy with no evidence demanding justice. Paying cash for rent without a receipt. I've always thought you were naive but come on that’s just plain stupid. Angry letters no matter how well composed usually don't do anything, so like I said take your lumps, chalk it up as a lesson learned, and move on.

Harsh words for a 30 something year old who still lives with the parents.

Ok, I was 17 and it was my first time living on my own, not to mention at the time, I thought he was someone I could trust. Give me a break.

I need those reciepts because the government has asked for them. I am not intending to write an "angry" letter, but more of a professional letter that makes him realize this is serious business and he can't just dismiss me like he has before.

As for the justice crap, yet again, you have NO IDEA what happened, or any of the details behind the matter, so please drop that. It is incredibly sensitive for me, and I don't appreciate you spouting your mouth off in regard to something you have absolutely no clue about.

Thanks.

EDIT: Adversarial?? I am one of the nicest, friendliest people you could meet, and I think most people would agree with me on here that my TA persona has held up to that.

Yea, I got a little snarky, but that's because you hit a nerve with me, and what do you expect? Do I always have to be smiles and sunshine? Sometimes I get pissed off, I am human, and I will express it if I feel it's needed.

There are very few people on here that I have been less than nice to, even people who are generally unliked (Nou), so yet again, wtf are you talking about?!

Work on your social skills. I bet if you swallowed your pride, made nice, and asked him in person you would have a better chance of getting what you want. Remember this is your problem, not his. You paid in cash without a receipt, then you used it on your taxes without receipts again. I say pay the extra taxes and move on.

Has it ever occurred to you he never claimed the rent you paid him as income on his taxes? If this is the case writing you a receipt would open the door to tax problems of his own. So why should he jeopardize himself for you? Think a little, after all that's what got you into trouble in the first place.
Slylee
yea theresa...listen to igk. he knows everything there is to know about social skills.
