Its an article about my school cause the democratic canidate for governor in California [Phil Angelides] went to my school.
Its an article about how my school graduates leaders and people who go out and make a difference in the world.
"Angelides' candidacy brings renewed attention to the role of Thacher and other elite boarding schools in producing many of Western society's best and brightest. It's a tradition that dates to at least 1440, with the founding of Britain's Eton College, a preparatory school favored by the British royal family.
It's also a tradition as modern as the most recent U.S. presidential election, which pitted Phillips Academy Andover's George W. Bush vs. St. Paul's School's John Kerry. Had the Iowa caucus turned out differently, St. George's School's Howard Dean might have been in the mix.
Before them came private boarding school graduates George Herbert Walker Bush, John F. Kennedy and Franklin D. Roosevelt, who credited his headmaster at Groton School with passing along a compassion for the downtrodden that became the foundation for the New Deal.
Bachman, a past president of the California Association of Independent Schools, said it's no accident that so many who choose a career of public service are boarding school alumni.
These schools have a common mission, he said: "To prepare you for success and to prepare you for good, responsible lives. ... You're pretty darn lucky to go to a place like Thacher. To whom much is given, much is expected. It's pretty trite, but it's true." "
Relevant part where I am mentioned:
"Rocil[Rocio] Hernandez, a senior from South-Central Los Angeles, attended an Amnesty International youth conference in Washington, D.C., this summer and is now one of the leaders of the Thacher chapter. Its current mission is to raise awareness of the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. Students are part of an Amnesty letter-writing campaign to officials in Washington."
Being in the news for a good reason for the first time is really exciting. Can't wait to see a lot of you at Monster Massive. |
