If all I had to listen to these days were sets from the "big" (or "bigger" names), I would probably have walked away from the world of EDM quite some time ago. Even DJ's who the quote en quote "elitists" here on TA are enamored with have lost my interest. Lawler is a bore, Holden seems to be moving in weirder and somewhat less interesting directions (though I did like "At the Controls" quite a bit), Sasha has at least been consistent though I haven't heard anything amazing from him in quite some time, and the same could be said for so many other DJ's out there right now. Very few have kept my attention as well as the incredible stable of talent that resides here on TA.
Basically, I think the amateur guys on here are really showing some pretty incredible skill and intense dedication to what they do. Clovis last set, "Red Line," was (I think) a practice set that has ended up being on permanent repeat for the last few weeks. DJ Metatron's "Nebulous" and "Incalescent" are both better examples of progressive programming than pretty much anything I've heard in the last year, and Greg (Allied Nations) latest is pure fire, though I will say his "Elvissa" set stands head and shoulders above anything else I've ever heard from him. And these are just 3 examples of the literally hundreds of sets that get posted on here each month; Granted, not all will be gold, but there is a wealth of talent just waiting to be heard here on TA - And perhaps those of you who didn't realize or didn't give the time of day to TA DJ's will change your tune and give some new guys a shot.
I guess I've just been very grateful as of late to have this as a pool for a new music, because the big guys out there (Other than Howells & Zabiela :p) just aren't cutting it for me lately...
So thanks for your dedication guys - It's tough work to keep me interested (short attention span ;)), and you guys keep me coming back for more and more each month.
And for those of you who've never found the DJ Promo forum: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...p?s=&forumid=73 |

Massive respect to all the TA DJs out there! DJ Metatron is taking up quite a bit of hard drive space on my work PC now, for example. Ry Brooks, I'm looking in your direction, too. And I'm still waiting for Above The Storm 2! :D I think we have some very, very skilled mixers here on TA. If one looks around, I'm sure he/she can find something from nearly every genre, too.
I only mix as a hobby, and I'll never play out like some of the DJs here. However, learning to mix (vinyl) as a hobby gives me that much more respect for everyone who posts a set in the DJ Promotion Forum. It ain't as easy as it looks, kids! It takes skill and guts to record a mix, post it, and wait for someone to tear it to shreds.
Thanks to all the TA DJs out there. Please keep the mixes coming. You (plural) make my work days soooo much smoother. |

can you post some links to these great TA sets? Have you heard James Lauer sets? I bet you'd like him.
There's one thing many don't realize or consider, the livesets that are available to you on the internet are usually not the best indication of the big name dj's. When I was in ibiza, listening to 97.6fm ibiza global radio, carl cox was doing a warm up radio show to his regular tuesday night at space. I'm not kidding you it was the best set I've ever heard from him. I was totally sober and it wasn't the aura of the island affecting my judgement, because we heard that station in every cab ride the whole vacation and nothing else compared to this set he did. This was just another one of those times a local radio will play an incredible set by a big name dj and it doesnt get recorded or put online. Of course, someone could've stream ripped it from www.ibizaglobalradio.com but no one ever does. If you think about it, anytime a big name dj plays a club in some town, the local terrestial station is bound to air it. Its just one of hundreds of sets by big name djs that get played daily on terrestial radio around the world.
edit: *played weekly around the world seems a better figure. |
