Well I'm sure you all remember the scandal behind DARPA setting up a futures trading market to predict terrorism ... I thought it was actually kind of neat and somebody else apparentely thought so as well because they created a stock market for political events. It's flawed because it uses fake money but it's kind of fun nontheless. It's just the beta version and I can tell that there aren't enough participants such that individuals can be market movers but the more people that sign up the more efficient/accurate it will be.

I'm losing $20,000 on a bet that the 08 presidential election will go to a dem :( |

Looks like a fun website. If I had more time on my hands, I'd join in on the fun, to see how it goes.
LOL, betting on Iran developing/testing nukes is quite fun ;-) insider information can make a huge difference ;-) |

| Wait, so what happens for example if a democrat wins the presidency in '08 to the stock? Essentialy the life of the stock is over, as it is a bet on who will will office. While I realize the gains will be big in the short time period when the reults are starting to come in, surely you can't place any orders after the final tallies are announced. So really you aren't ever betting on the outcome, just the speculation up to the outcome. Is that correct or am I missing something? |
