I am thinking of interning in SF this summer, but am trying to asses the situation before I do anything rash. I am from Chicago and currently go to school in New England. Most by me intern in NYC, but I absolutely hate it there. So, in the field I want to go into, SF is one of my next best choices and I have heard good things. I would like to know a couple of things though...
-For anyone that has been to Chi-town or NYC, in what ways does SF compare/differ?
-I know its not exactly cheap, but I believe its not as bad as NYC, is this true?
-How is the public transporation system?
-How are the women? (seriously)
-What sort of outdoorsy activities are there, especially water activites? Are they readily available and not overly expensive?
-Any other major points that should either bring me to SF or give me caution? |

Be patient, Dave T and Lex I'm sure will be on here shortly and give you a rundown :)
I'm personally not a big fan of SF. I only like to visit there, living there would be a nightmare in my opinion. But I am a born and raised in L.A. girl so I'm sure most born and raised in SF would say they hated L.A. as well :haha:
Anyway, they are the guys who will have some good 411 for ya, just hang tight. |

Never been to NYC (oddly enough when I've been all over the world!), but everyone says Chi-town in NYC is better. Altough the one here is pretty good.

True. NYC is the most expensive city in the US. SF is the third most expensive major metropolitan area. Los Angeles passed SF this year to take over as the second most expensive major metropolitan area.
-How is the public transporation system?
Not as crazy as NYC, but it's very extensive. If you live and work in the city, you will most likely rely on public trans. I recently moved from the city (cause I had a baby) to an area about 35-40 miles away and take a train/subway back into the city for work. It goes a nice 70mph and is much faster than driving during rush hour.

I found mine in Los Angeles, lol. People (women included) are very laid back and REAL compared to most cities I've been too.

Not sure what you mean.

The vibes are clubs here destroy any other city. :) |

| i've been to chicago once and nyc a couple times and i'd say sf is probably the most comparable city in america to either of them as far as the metropolitan atmosphere, food, culture, politics, etc. sf has the best climate out of the 3 and generally outsiders' biggest complaint is how cold it is here so if you come from chi/nyc that should be no problem. physically though, sf is like a baby version of nyc/chicago. the cost of living is pretty similar with sf and manhattan being neck and neck. you'll find the traffic to be MUCH more tolerable here though. the women of course are gorgeous, active and independent like any large city. there's LOTS to do in sf, every weekend there's some sort of free outdoor festival, parade, concert, march, fair, market or show. right now we're having fleet week: a naval ship parade, an air force air show and a redbull air race. there's a big ass park called golden gate park where like ny's central park you can always find people doing outdoorsy activities. some of the most popular activities are hang gliding, wind surfing, sailing, golfing, roadbiking and walking/jogging |
