Hey all
Been a while since I posted something up here. Thought it was about time I made my way back to these forums.
Here is a new one I just finished:

Its along the lines of Askew/Tyas/O'Callaghan - which is really the sound I'm bashing out here in Australia in the clubs.
Melodies are not my strong point, but i think this one is better than all my other attemps. Would love to hear your feedback. I have worked a lot on the overal mix quality also.
made with Ableton 6.0.1, VStation, Powermac G5.

Hey mate listening to it as I write..
Ah yeah, bass levels good... nice and clean... looks like a good move on your part to start using another sequencer.
Stereo imaging is good also.. nice fade-outs too ;)
Melody is lacking a bit in originality but still catchy none-the-less and suits the production..
I'm giving it 7 bass drums out of 10. Good work! |

Not a huge fan of the rhythm on the distorted synth at 0:45. The synth is nice, though.
Mastering and percs are good enough (functional).
The track isn't keeping me interested at all. After 3mins, i'm going ot skip ahead.
Nice effect at 4:10.
Not a fan of the composition at 4:40. Going to skip ahead again.
Not a fan of it in general. Work on energy and composition.

alanzo ur always the harshes of the critics :) no ur right.
I'm not gonna change the composition all that much now.. i'd rather move on to my next project.
But i have redone the mix, played with every channel and bumped the mix so it's a final master now. Added some more vairation to the pads, and fixed a few bits and pieces.

Alanzo, it's also not intended to be a 'steal the moment' type tune. I produced this for my own sets, to go between the BIIIG tunes. I'm not a fan of playing sets that are just big tune after big tune, and lately I seem to be only able to find a lot of big tunes... so I'm doin the askew thing and making my own fillers :)

^ thanks mate.
I'm gonna do a little more work on the final mix. I still think I can boost the kick and tighten up the perc and melodies some more - mainl in panning the elements better. Not much to change, but I think it will boost the final mix quality just that little extra!

OK updated it again. Last time I swear. Have added a new bassline to fit in between the sub and the rolling bass. I think it adds some nice character. Also worked on the mix just that little bit more.

Sound at the beginning is much coolor now. You should reduce its presence when the other elements come in, though. Don't like the sound at 0:35... sounds like a distorted square?
Percs sound better, too. Still finding myself skiping around. Probably just because of the length of the track.
Not a fan of the 'main' synth. Composition might work if the synth were better.
Mostly, I would say work on your sound synthesis. |

Hey man, I've already told you what I thought about this on MSN. However I have to post again on this because it sounds so damn wicked in your Sound Of Now mix, that I've found myself actually coming back to this tune more than a lot of the others in that mix.
The bassline has those really interesting passing notes that really make the tune stand out, and the saw melody has got such a crazy/fun vibe, and its really catchy too. Those two elements make this tune something really special.
It's by far your best song yet, so keep it up man! And get this tune out there! |
