no I'm being serious, something crazy like that in Mexico
enter Special K in 3, 2.... |
It involved some guy coming into the club and wanting Lawler to to play a song on a CD that he had with him as the last track.
Lawler refused and wanted to finish his set as he wanted (with his own tunes)
Apparently the club owner guy was some muchos-mafioso-mexicano and started to get all crazy angry that Lawler wouldn't comply and threatened bodily harm, etc.
The owner urged Lawler to comply - he wouldn't.
So Lawler left the decks. The owner got mad and forced him into the club and was forced to play for another hour.
I'm not certain if the track actually got played or not. |

Steve Lawler:
OK i'll let you know what went on.
i had played for 2 hours, and things were going fine, and then the owner of the club wanted me to play a 15 min, techno trance record called dance with the devil, which was about 160 bpm!!! so of course i refused to. I knew nothing about this performance and i wasnt about to break up what i had built musically.. so they told me to play the record or get off, so i came off, then when myself, my girlfriend and my agent went to leave the club, they freatened us with 10 bouncers, we were going to get the beaten out of us, so they forced us back into the club, litterally thisically forced us, i went back in and was made to play 1 more hour surrounded by bouncers etc..
i have to tell you, in all my career i have never ever had anything like this happen before, i was very worried for my girlfriend and had to do as they said.
i will never again come to gaudalaja, im sorry for those of you that live there, i will how ever be doing shows in other parts of mexico, but i will never step foot into that city again. sorry.
this was a very scary incident that i never want to be in again..
that club can go and themselves, and i advise no one to play there, it was completely un real what happened.. words do not describe how concerned i was that evening..
the show in mexico city was great i ended up playing for just over 4 hours to a great crowd. so i will definately be back there again some time in the near future..
i hope this clears all rumours..

I then remember forwarding this excerpt to Christopher Lawrence's management (who was greatful I sent this tidbit along), as he was supposed to play there right after this incident. Needless to say, I believe he cancelled as a result. |

"DANCE WITH THE DEVIL" hahaha..
for those of you who know that track i'm sure u'll know why he refused to play it
i'm sure lawler mentioned the police break up in Toronto because he loves being recognised for that kind of stuff. It happened to him in Montreal @ Myst as well, and not to mention those tunnel parties years and years ago :D
"6 centuries ago
The last visitor from earth
Entered my world.
Now it`s your turn to feel the pain!
*scream*
THE GATES ARE OPENED
Pain - Anger - Hate - Fear - Chaos - Darkness - Evil - Hell
THE GATES ARE OPENED
Gate 1: Darkness - the world of demans
Gate 2: My guards are watching you
Gate 3: Only evil lives here
Gate 4: There`s no way out
Gate 5: Feel the fire
Gate 6: Pick up your weapons and fight!
FIGHT!
FIGHT!
And dance with the devil!
THE GATES ARE OPENED
Gate 1
Gate 2
Gate 3
Gate 4
Gate 5
Gate 6 - 6 - 6
Now fight me again!
Fight!"

I wouldn't say that's a good plug, but a plug none the less.
Awhile back there was an interview with Ferry Corsten in iDJ and he was saying how his favourite club to play was The Guvernment in Toronto and he was talking about a set he spun back in March 2004 in the mainroom. He was only supposed to spin for 4 hours but he said he was having so much fun on the decks that he just kept going and ended up spinning for 8 hours. That sure made me smile b/c I was there that night...and you all know how much I love Ferry Corsten. |
