An extension to this:
Make the area of paper gradually smaller and smaller. When he misses the paper, scold him. He will associate the paper and outside with where to use the bathroom. When the paper is finally gone, he will understand that he must wait to go outside. |
Yep. |

reward, reward, reward him when he poops/pees outside. use high pitched happy tones like, "GOOD BOY!! U WENT PEE OUTSIDE! U GET A TREAT! GOOD BOY!"
and only scold him if you catch him in the act of going to the bathroom in the house. use a rolled up newspaper to swat him, not your hands. and dont ever rub his nose in pee or poop that he did a while ago, and then spank him. he will associate it that going to the bathroom in general is wrong or bad. might confuse him.
and it doesn't hurt to get a nice sized cage too, to keep him in there during the night. it shouldn't be a place of punishment, but more like his "home". give him a treat for going in there each night and be happy about putting him in there. and then first thing in the morning, take him outside to pee and again, reward him for going potty outside.
oh and ps, he's adorable! :) |

perfect. Move them right by the door, do it within days, and he'll soon learn. As Jenny said, the best deterrent is to rub their noses in it, it's not cruel, it's a practice that's been successful for years. Make him learn the words, so whatever ones you use, keep to them. My recently departed dog responded to 2 phrases for toileting, Wee-wee or 'gotta piss?' at which point if he did he'd come & nudge my hands with his head to signal yes, if he didn't he'd just lie there like ' no' Discipline is the main thing needed with a young pup, if they don't get it, they'll be wild. we have 2 pups next door atm and while they're beautiful & soft & soppy, they're very aggressive fighting with each other & chew anything & everything up, cos the owners haven't told them off for it. |

| well for the smarter dogs, yea...they can put 2 and 2 together. my dog KNOWS...sometimes he'll do a little "trinkle" at my mom's because of her dog being there...it's more like he's marking his territory. and i'll see the spot and be like, "LEX! WHAT IS THAT?" and i just point to it, and he immediately puts his tail between his legs and runs under the bed like, "oh ". :stongue: |

same with all my family members who've had dogs. we dont use a paper, just a tap on the nose and the word 'no' have always done it |

thanks for all the tips everyone.. i've noticed that he's getting better at it.. he never pees inside anymore. the poop is just a problem.. i'm gonna start picking it up and bringing it to a spot outside with him in my hands..
i've been doing the praise/treat thing outside.. so hopefully it's working. |

| Cute Dog! there is a spray that you can buy at some animal stores and it helps prevent [poops & pees on the rug. |
