Pretty terrible news...

A few days ago I was talking to my bestfriend since early childhood, we always joke around, make fun of eachother in any way possible and pretty much everything we can but in no way do we take offense to it. Was talking to him online and his away message came up as "wow, really depressed" so obviously i ripped an "wtf are you cutting your wrists emo boy?", but in no way did I know what happened for him to have that up.
When he came back he informed me that his father just found out he has cancer...I really can't express how terrible this news is to me and how if in any case his father would die it would be the biggest lose to him and his family and not to mention how he has been like a parent to me.
I'm not too informed about the whole medical thing and how curable and possible it is to get away from cancer so I'm here not to seek sympathy but more so as to ask people that know about these things to inform me about the possibilies to get better in any way. He's going into radiation and such this coming week. So far its not really known how bad it is, but supposidly it is spreading but the doctors here are ing morons and i'm not sure wether he will be going up to Boston for better information and treatment or not. So any info would be great. |

| Depends on where the cancer is really. Also depends on how far in the cancer is. If its skin cancer, he'll likely live. If it's lung cancer he'll probably die. Really just depends... need more info. |

| My dad had prostate cancer. He caught it early but it was an accelerated type that spread fast. He had his prostste removed & some lymph nodes & got it all. It was a 2 month recovery, but he was back to normal life after that. :) |

If you've been diagnosed with cancer, the tumors are malignant.
Some types of cancer are more dangerous than others.
There are different grades of cancer cells (more aggressive versus not very aggressive) and different stages of cancer.
Sometimes you are more likely to survive if you have an unaggressive cancer cell and it's discovered in an early stage.
Othertimes, you are more likely to survive if you have an aggressive cancer cell because there is a cure for this strain and not for the unaggressive strain.
So you can't really generalize.
Someone said skin cancer isn't so bad. That's not true. Malanoma can be one of the deadliest cancers if it mestatizes.
I think I'm spelling all these words wrong.
There's so much going on today and so much research being conducted...
Be supportive. Ask questions but don't offer statistics because more oft than not, the statistics will be wrong or misleading. My mom had a cancer when I was little (like 7?). Her chance of survival for 1 year was 0%. Her chance of survival for 3 years was 0%. Her chance of survival for 5 years was 0%.
Her cancer cell was very aggressive and quite advanced when it was discovered.
She's still alive today and she's hotter than all my friends' moms and has a boyfriend who's only like two years older than my brother...
I guess my point is statistics told us, don't hope... |

| jupiterone, tell him to cheer up because there's always hope (sorry for bringing up this old cliche). My mother had phase 4 cancer right below her lungs and after one major surgery and 6 months of chemotherapy she is able to live a normal life and didn't even have to go into radiation treatment and now she only has to go in for a check up once every 2 months to monitor her lymph nodes. With today's technology , the most dreaded diseases out there are treatable and can be controlled. |

| Thanks guys, my friend said it really isn't too sure yet since his dad is going in to further see whats going on but he said he has a little bit in his lungs and brain clots on his right arm, im not sure if its brain clot because i searched that up and couldnt really find anything and it all related to blood clot cancer or so. Not sure really yet. |

my mother had the same kind of aggressive cancererous tumor and it's been mostly removed and it's kinda ironic to be honest. I remember when I used to think that you weren't real like that krysta101 persona and we've both had mothers go through the same thing. I'm glad your mom is doing better, I remember when I couldn't sleep for weeks when she was going through all this.
Sorry for saying that you were an alt Echo. |
