Ive been doing as much research as I can about Nord. I even went to guitar center today and played with the nord lead 2 and it sounded absolutely fantastic. The sound was so much brighter than the ti and every pad was so lush and warm it made me start drooling. Anyway, what I am confused about is how much better is the nord lead 3 better than nord lead 2? I found a website that compared both and it said that NL 2 actually sounded better than NL 3?!?

how can this be? The NL 2 was only selling for $999 , and the NL 3 is for $1799 i believe.

How about the rack version? I found a post on TA someone said that nord rack 3 sounded different too. How can it sound different from NL 3? Im so confused.

If anyone has first hand experience with these please let me in on some details it would really help.

Thanks

I think a verbal description of the difference in sound might not be of much use to you myself - being that they most likely sound very similar. If you search around the net (or in this board even) you're likely to find some examples of both to compare yourself. The Nord Rack 3 is identical in sound to the Nord Lead 3 by the way.

can someone name a quick list of the most important differences?

Three seems to have a few extra features like arpegio and unison, tho I only skimmed the specs. Never heard them myself, only heard the first model when it was released, and I liked it back then. Never bought one tho.

Have you tried searching this forum? This topic has been beaten to death.

Either go with NL1 (with PCMCIA add on - which gives you 8 add'l voices, for total of 12) or go with NL3. NL2 kinda sucked and was not as good as nl1 or nl3. NL3 has better integration (LCD, lights near knobs, etc), also has 24 voices. It also has different DSP from NL2 which (IMHO) sounds better than all the previous models, except maybe NL1, which some claiim is somewhat "warmer". I personally LOVE nl3 and would not trade it for 10 nl2s.

Harmony-central.com user reviews along with vintagesynth.com should also help.
Derivative
Erm. NL3 is a completely different sound engine to the NL2. It doesn't even sound the same. Go audition one.
Synchronicity
I remember Steve Helstrip of the thrillseekers saying he had the NL3 but sold it because he preffered the NL2. He also said he used the NL2 in all his tracks.
