| Hey ya'll, lately i've been playing around with MixMeister Pro 4 and just trying to learn how to get good transitions and beatmatching and what-not. My question to everyone is....is there something(s) in particular I should look for/strive for when choosing my tracks and making a mix? Now obviously i know similiar BPM's is important, and i know some other basics of mixing, but how do you get a mix to have really good "flow"? Answers to this and any other general dj'ing tips and tricks would be MUCH appreciated! thx ahead of time! |

| there is no real definate answer to this...thats part of the nature of being a DJ...its very subjective with the definition of "good flow" is. my recommendation: record what you feel is a good set and compare it some of the other guys in the promotion forum or possibly even some of the big names out there...once you can pinpoint what you can do to make it sound better then you can change your mix or style and go from there....hope this made sense. also when it comes to djing practice makes perfect...regardless if you only use some computer program or if your in front of your decks |

I started off on the computer too w/ Virtual DJ. I think it helped me a lot in terms of learning to use the 3 EQ's during the mix. To me, it's a really important skill to have to make the mix "flow". As you progress, you'll learn your tracks better and learn what kind of transition to make, whther it be subtle but constant EQ changes, to "eq slams" to even fader slams if the moment is right. Also, when you're playing a set, before you start, try to at least think about what kind of set you want it to be in terms of maybe starting off in one BPM range (and, typically, one style) and transitioning to a faster BPM (and different style) incrementally. That'll help you to stay generally within a genre and within a certain sound.
Hope that helps. |

| Thanks guys, that helps me out quite a bit. You're so right about the "practice makes perfect" too. And btw, i listened to your Epic Trance set you posted SPAWNmaster, it was pretty damn good, nice work. |

I recommend you read this book.
Contains full in depth sections on anything and everything DJing related, from simple beatmatching to reading the crowd at a gig to setting up a record label.
Honestly it is the DJ's bible. |
