1. It's a 10,000 seater mosque, possibly rising in the future to 40,000 if there is the need and could theoretically be expanded to accommodate 70,000
2. This is for the people of West Ham to decide
3. Having the signatures and addresses of people outside of the UK, let alone outside of West Ham will make a mockery out of this petition (not that this petition will make any difference anyway)
My personal opinion is that I don't care about the size of the mosque. What does concern me is this "Islamic village". The impression that gives me is that this will be some kind of community for Muslims only to live in (which has racist overtones and there is also the fear that there maybe some kind of attempt to establish Muslim law in the area - it would be a place to go out and have a pint that's for sure!!!). However, I have been limited to the information I've been able to find and the OP provided none so for all I know this "Islamic village" may be just a complex like a huge mall with shops and mosques and bomb factories etc?
Erm, just joking about the bomb factories by the way! |

| ^^^ I don't see how a "Muslim village" would be any different from a China town. :conf: |

Yeah, why say "no"?
I'd love to live next to a mosque, or any other religious facility for that matter. Most services are VERY beautiful. When I was a catholic, I went to latin mass, and it was a very nice, I would just close my eyes and listen. |

I know I wouldn't see anything different personally.
Sure I'd have to get 'used' to it
Lets just hope it's not a step towards sneaking in Sharia or blasting prayer over a huge ass speaker at 5 in the morning.
They suggesting that in Vancouver mosque once in the middle of the city...didn't go over too well as one might image... :wtf: |

Well taking my definition of what a "Muslim village" might mean, then that would imply (if they are purchasing the land) that only Muslims would get to live there. In China towns, they are simply a concentration of Chinese immigrants (much like many estates in the UK are concentrated by various ethinic minorities) but these are not exclusive to one race/religion. If these people own the land and own the buildings they get to chose who lives there. The UK is multicultural and I don't think innitiatives like this would help that one little bit (assuming that definition is what they mean, I'm not convinced tho as I have seen little evidence...) |

^^ If that definition is indeed accurate, then I understand your concern, but I doubt that's the case.
EDIT: What I imagined it to be was something that resembles a China town, not an unwelcoming and imposing environment. Not that I'm saying you implied this, not at all ;), but I fail to see what rationale would lead to this assumption. |

the east end is already a muslim ghetto
previously it was a working class area fammed for it's ruff and tough pubs, community spirit and the generall tackyness of the place
the village will be a MUSLIM ONLY area, it would be a china town, we already have banglatown in whitchappel. |

Well can you give us any information about it? Or are you involved in building it and have inside info?! ;) |
