All the gay men showed up and the straights from last year got scared off.. I almost did too :p The dance area was made more compact I think as well. Still, lots of nice women to look at.

If you like massives, it was still good times but it wasn't what it was compared to last year, and BnB 06 paled in comparison to BeB 06 and Celebration 06 even. Clamaran was so so in the beginning (too much diva stuff and odd mixing, him and Charles Poulin at times) but his set picked up around 3am, and the music was better from that time on, it got more dirtier with pounding basslines.

Black and Blue is what you make of it, for the most part.. this one didn't stand out from any other massive, imo. But if you were starved for a good, big sized party - like I was after waiting for six months - then it was adequate. But if you were expecting to be blown away with a set up like last years, etc, then you were probably a bit disappointed.

Music: 7/10
Vibe: 7/10
Women: 7/10
Organisation: 6/10 (bathroom and beverage waits were worse this year, even with the scaled down crowd).

All-night dance party out of this world
Black & Blue attendance down by half

KATE LUNAU, The Gazette
Published: Tuesday, October 10, 2006
Dressed head to toe in black and blue, Aldo De Luca declared the 16th edition of the annual Black & Blue Party "amazing."

De Luca, 39, was among the throngs of people leaving the Olympic Stadium yesterday after dancing the night away. The 15-hour bash, which marks the end of the week-long Black & Blue Festival, began at 9 p.m. Sunday and ended at noon yesterday.

Party organizers were expecting to draw about 15,000 people, as they did in 2005, but Radio-Canada reported attendance was closer to 7,000.

Many of those filing out of the stadium yesterday were red-eyed and groggy, but declared the all-nighter a massive success.

The Big O was transformed into a futuristic outer-space airport for the event. Decorations included an illuminated landing strip and a large model airliner.

Emone Ananthasane, 32, and Brenda Encarnacion, 36, didn't arrive at the party until 4:30 a.m. They stayed until almost noon.

"We were waiting for the best DJs to start," Ananthasane said of their late arrival. She named local DJ Mark Anthony, who performed at the show, one of her favourites.

Montreal police made two arrests at the event for drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, Constable Benoit Couture said.

That said, I think the smaller crowd was due partly to Tenaglia: he sucked last year but he's the king of tribal, whereas Clamaran doesn't carry the same ticket selling clout in Montreal, etc. As well, Tenaglia's bad set from last year didn't do any favours for BnB this year, in terms of bringing all those 15,000 ppl back from last year. And I didn't see a lot of marketing for BnB this year. They should've somehow got Steve Lawler or Sasha/Sander in there and ticket sales would've jumped for sure.

Maybe BBCM gambled on the party's reputation alone and thought that there would be no need to book some big name djs. If that was the case, then that was a GROSS MISCALCULATION!!

What do you guys think the reason is?

15,000 to 7,000 is a HUGE dropoff..

The news said that the Harper government cut funding for this event. Combine this with only 7000 attendance, and the picture looks grim for this event to happen again.
That leaves only Celebration and BeB.

there you go. You have Nic Fancuilli and Steve Lawler, Victor Calderone floating around here and not one of them booked for a massive? Chus and Ceballos for 2.5 hours only? They were cutting corners for sure. Marketing was so non existant, one could find WMDs in Iraq easier than finding info on BnB..
