Utilitarian things look like , but that's not the point. Point is, it's a suckier candy (for my tastes) with a nicer wrapping. And that's all it is, nicer wrapping to get your attention away from it's numerous security flaws and other downsides.

And as Win was a copy of MacOS, .NET a copy of Java, Vista a copy of a little bit of everything.

I like orignals. Just like my candy.

I had this same mobo until I installed some ram myself and somehow fried it. Probably karma from something I did wrong to someone.

I haven't, actually. The last thing I overclocked was my old Thunderbird core Athlon 1400 on an MSI K7T-Turbo RAID mobo. The ****** would idle at 65 degrees C with a Globalwin FOP38 HSF, so I ran some dryer ducting out the window and overtop of the CPU/HSF with 2 Sunon 12cm fans in it - idled at 18 degrees after that. Mind you, this was the dead of winter.

Managed to get it up to 1600 flat, but anymore than that and she'd out. That was the absolute max for that core, I suppose.

Also, I have no idea how to even go about overclocking this thing. It's seriously been about 4 years since I last did that stuff. How does one do it these, days, FSB stuff or what?

Pretty much the same as the olden days except AMD architecture uses HTT.. basically FSB.. but with a direct connection between CPU and RAM rather than running through the NB. So HTT also has a multiplier.. I'm surprised vista is running so well on your computer though.

I should be getting my hands on my new Dell Core2 Duo laptop any day now... loaded to the and back. Can't wait to give Vista a whirl on it (and after playing with the latest RC I'm sold, Macs have nothing more to offer to me :D)

it will be hard leaving Suse 10.1/WinXP dual boot setup...

it's funny to spot the anti-microsoft peeps a mile away; what can i say, Microsoft is my bread and butter right now, so i have no issues with them finally releasing a prettier o/s. I'm always entertained by those who accuse Microsoft of copying, thus meaning windows is illegitimate (as if we caught them doing something sneaky). Of course they copy! They're the masters of it. That's how this wonderful business world works, Microsoft just does it the best. ;) The security stuff in it can be a little insane at times, but I'm enjoying the layout, gui and advanced features. I'm not big on the icons, they seem to be a throw-back (folder icons, etc), but that's just "window" dressing. We won't be installing it on any of our development boxes for some time, but certainly will have throw it at support since all new PCs will begin shipping with it soon... so like it or not, here it comes! Might as well like it...

opengl was performing pretty ty on the RC1 install i had going... i have read a bunch of things but a lot of it sounds like FUD so i dunno what the facts are.

i hope this changes for final... carmack and epic game engines rely heavily on opengl along with a bunch of professional graphic apps and some other stuff out there...
