Hey guys!!! The title says it all! Akia volunteered a week ago to write and record BY HERSELF the lyrics and the vocals of my latest track Don't Lose Faith. We yould like to have your comments! Please have in mind that WE ARE NOT PROFESSIONALS when commenting! We need your advice so we can get better!

The lyrics:
Scars inside, carved since long time ago, for each fear.
Still in pain with every taken breath.
No more!
En ny tid. En ny era. Ett nytt jag.
Take control! Your life is just yours, no one, knows more.
Walk your way, donīt let anything lead you astray.
Nothing will be the same again!
Thanks in advance and many thanks to Akia!!!! |

big clean kick - i like the delay effect you have on it at the beginning.
arrangement sounds a bit unfriendly to dj's. give them a build to work with.
pads are fantastic - really nice sounds man. very nice atmophere they create. and they work with the minimal percs well. i would add a nice PHAT snare over the reverbed clap to give power - the clap is to distant on its own.
akia's voice - she has a nice cute voice - english rose style:) - but omg - i am no vocal expert but the reverb used is way wrong. its a too small 'room' with not enough 'reverb time'. and the vocal has too much low mid. lower the low mid and boost the 2000-5000hz region. + some boost at 10k maybe? - make her really sparkle.
main section - i love the melodies yet they dont seam to follow an arrangement. build this track around a standard build, break, mainsection then wind down and it will be awsome man. you have a great melody and pad ear.
loads of protential guys!

terrible start for djing purposes. cut the offbeat/delayed kick and drop the bass for at least 32 bars with just the main kick and percussion building.
i like the bass but have to agree with rich on arrangement. everything is just threw in on top of one another. review the structure as there are nice sounds in this.
i like the vocals but they dont sit well in the mix. lower the volume add some delay and different reverb. with the right work you could make these sit well and sound very deep in this track.
also i would use the vocals some more i think they could use some more work at the very last word 'again'. have that like againnnnnnnn with the pitch increasing to give it a more uplifting feel.
anyway good look with it, interesting listen. |

Hey File_Corrupted and Akia :)
Straight forward to what i think:
Synths sounds too much vanguard, try to make it more your own sound..
Piano could use some work, maybe a deeper and longer tail on the reverb and some eqing would do it.
Vocals sounds terrible, not her voice, but what you did with it, try to eq it like rich said, and get rid of that reverb!
hmm, i think akia is off on some high notes actually :(
Her voice is great, and with some more practicing i think she could be a star :)
I love that swedish speak, thats awesome! :D
Im hard on you now, but this could sound so much better :)
Work some more on it, especially the vocals.
The potential is there, so dont give up :)

I really love female vocal trance - it's what got me into this genre in the first place.
That said, I agree with these guys. Akia sounds horribly muffled and she is definitely slightly off-key on a couple of notes, especially in the last stanza ("anything" in "don't let anything lead you astray" for example). Definitely give her more highs and maybe try to correct the pitch either digitally or by re-recording. Her voice in itself is lovely.
A minor nitpick is that I don't really like your piano melody. I played piano for about six years, and it feels to me 'unnatural'. I'm not sure if it's JUST the melody or maybe the fact that the piano sounds unrealistic. I'd like it better if the 4th-6th notes in that melody were slightly syncopated, maybe. That and a better piano sound. Out of curiosity, have you tried using octaves (same notes simultaneously) to get some brightness into that piano melody? The whole track seems a bit "cool/icy" and maybe that would seat the piano better.
Anyway, I like the arrangement a lot. This could be a very cool track. |

Listening as i review.
I am not a DJ, so i dont care about the beginning lol ;)
Nice Drumming! Pretty Fast. It becomes a little repetitive when the Piano Line drops in, but i like the pad games ... Akia comes in a little surprising and the vox could be more "present" ... I am not too much a fan of the break (too long, would have been good for 1999 - 2002 lol), the saw synth, comes in matching good, but nothing special really :( I was hoping for some more decent synth games, but well the Piano does its job good :) Nice Effect work on it too :)
Overall: Nice Track, but very long with nothing too new in it. Nice athmosphere overall, but it just has this slight cheesy touch to it (or is it just me?)
Oh and yeah, Drums are good. Pumping nice, not too much, not too less stuff in it ...
:disbelief
Have a nice one
