Its obviously the vinyl thats playing... If you watch the video you can see twisted on the right turntable (its got that grayish blue label, I have the vinyl).

You can also watch gielen put his headphones on during simulated, so he must be doing something.

I think svenson was just there for effect.

can someone tell me where i can get the video

i luv watching people go nuts over a kik ass song, and every song gielen played was fkn awesome
mr. poopyhead
i dunno... it DOES matter cause it makes all the producers look like retards up there.... they look like dance music milli vanillis.... i mean, in the push video, they stopped between each song... looked more like a rock concert... they shoulda just played a nice mixed set instead of a fake performance (assuming they're faking it... cause it sure looks like it, =P)

the live performance that totally BLOWS me away is rank 1 live at sensation, when they play such is life.... omg... can't tell if its fake or not but it's DAMN good...

Well ive done live acts and i can tell you FOR SURE that push ( at tTE) did not played and in Twisted Svenson isn't playing at all and im 100% sure cause i have the same keyboard and there is no sound like that one on my keyboard...

and i think they look very stupid doing that...it's even more ty than those who lip sync
wookieslut
whats funny though is in the push video you can see dirk pressing the next button on the cd player after one song ends....hence he used a cd player to play the songs.
Excite
if thats true then its plain scandalous.
i've some really good live acts by Spacegirl and Deepsky that were definetely real so you have to give them credit.
thewarpbrothers
hmmmmmm...i guess they are there for the performance as to make the crowd happy and not playing the right in case of ups, stupid imo

Chicane really plays live; anyone who has seen videos of his gig will know what I mean. Svenson disgusts me..

there are multiple ways in which a electronic formation go "live".

One way is to let a DAT play and mash on the keyboard which obviously doesn't do anything as sometimes the producer raises his hands in the air and claps and the music goes on unchanged. This is like milk inc. Safest way, if you die on stage the set will finish the same as when you live.

Another way is to play your set from a harddiskrecorder or from the actual equipment or from samplers (the actual gear sampled to make sequencing and travelling easier) and twiddle a 32 channel mixer. This is like live mastering of the track. This is what underworld does. If you die on stage the set will probably finish but be all ed up as some channels don't play and the mix will be messed up.

Another way is to kind of do the above thing, but you leave one channel, preferably pads or strings or something in which accuracy isn't the most hearable, out of the sequencer, you play that part live on a keyboard. This is what Rank 1 does. It adds to the "live" feel, taking the risk you mess up.

A lot of techno acts don't have their entire set planned, they use patterns in their sequencer (live sequencer for this is usually AKAI MPC 2000) They unmute and mute tracks to vary the pattern (while tweaking 303's preferably) and when they feel like it switch to the next pattern. This way you shape the music live. If you die on stage the same 16 beat sequence for instance will loop unchanged until infinity.

The acts I named by some "techniques" are from what I could make out from seeing live-sets. So don't flame me if Rank 1 are your neighbours and they use patterns instead of an entire sequence.

Of course you can probably think of more. I'd like to hear them! These are kinda the ones I know. (of course you can add drummers using trigger pads and singers and the likes for extra "live")
