Amethystium - Emblem

A great album from Norwegian producer Amethystium that compiles some of his best works from his past three albums. The guy started making music at 16 for this project, and it really took off when he was 17. It has some influences from Enigma, Enya, Delerium, Mike Oldfield, Mythos and Tangerine Dream, but for the most part, it's pretty unique. Imagine amazingly beautiful and delicate piano-synth melodies, violins, washes of sound in the background, angelic...almost wordless female vocals and some gregorian chants. This is what you should expect from this album. It might be too fluffy for some, but I don't think this guy overdoes it, it's just very bittersweet and will definitely make you feel like your in another world...quite trance-like.

It could be considered new age/ambient or downtempo/chill with some light beats. Standout tracks include: "Ethereal" which he composed at 16 and definitely lives up to the title. "Arcus" with a gorgeous female singing and violins, pianos and flutes in various places. "Shadows In Light", which has a great, mysterious feel reminiscent of some of Enigma's or Tangerine Dream's more ethereal-ambient work, and the gorgeous "Exultation". I'de say every track is good in it's own right. Definitely going to check out his other CDs that include these same tracks, though these were slightly modified for this compilation album. Check out some of his tracks here...

Been listening to this CD alot since last week when I bought it. It grows on your each time you listen to it. If you like Enigma's more ethereal, instrumental tracks, you will like this guy's music. It's quite floaty/spacey and earthy/beautiful at the same time. Haha i'm the only one responding to my own thread...:D

Cool I like, thanks for the comment. ;). I'm definitely into ambient music that is melodic and ethereal, with light beats. I think I actually kind of prefer it to the more atmospheric stuff from Steve Roach, but i'm surely going to try to get into that stuff too eventually...expand my tastes. But I think Amethystium just makes some really good listening music. I may or may not even need his three other albums because Emblem covers his best stuff, but who knows..there might be some gems on there that aren't on here...I may just be able to download the tracks that aren't on here if I can find them. Haha each time I get a new CD or hear a track that blows me away I just have to tell people about it, even if no one knows who I'm talking about :D

Listen to the melody on his MySpace page on "Arcus" at about 2:50 into it. Sounds asian...possibly Japanese. Really cool...gives me the chills each time I hear it. This guy is quite a talented composer, producer and musician. Also check out the the melodies in "Shadows To Light" is also sweet...with a synth melody and an electronically enhanced pan flute in the background...very high pitched. And then the synth and piano melodies after that...amazing.

I've been listening to Amethystium for about 3-4 years. I completely love the music. I listen to them all the time. Have the first three cds. Have great memories with this music. It's very dreamy. I'm actually going to listen to some right now.

I love Amethystium! I remember when I heard "Ethereal" a few years ago, I couldn't stop listening to it. Its one of those tracks I put on at night and fall asleep to. I haven't actually listened to that track or any others for a while. I think I will have a listen though today. :)

Cool, glad you like it. What albums/tracks did you hear or like the best? I am really digging "Satori" right now, it's on Emblem and Evermind. Sounds asian, hence the name "Satori". Some of his music has some asian soudning stuff, mixed in with european/western sounds as well.
