One step closer to not having to hear Randi Rhodes ever again. Please make it be so.

NEW YORK
Air America Radio, a liberal talk and news radio network that features the comedian Al Franken, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a network official told The AP.
The network had denied rumors just a month ago that it would file for bankruptcy. On Friday, Air America spokeswoman Jaime Horn told The Associated Press that the filing became necessary only recently after negotiations with a creditor from the company's early days broke down.
The network will stay on the air while it resolves issues with its creditors, Horn said. In addition to Franken, the network also features shows from liberal talk show host Randi Rhodes and Jerry Springer.
Horn declined to name the creditor with which talks had reached a logjam. The company will operate in the interim with funding from its current investor group.
Air America also said Friday it had named Scott Elberg as its new CEO. Elberg, a former general manager of the radio station WLIB in New York, has been with the network since May of last year.
The filing marked the latest turbulence at the liberal talk radio network, which went on the air two years ago. This April, Danny Goldberg stepped down as CEO and was replaced by an interim chief executive from a management consulting firm.
"Nobody likes filing for bankruptcy," Elberg said in a statement. "However, this move will enable us to concentrate on informing and entertaining our audience during the coming months." |
I hope the coming months are bad for these guys. I have never heard a single positive comment from anybody on that station (and I give them quite a bit of airtime). |

Yeah those god damn liberals, they are screwing up America!! We need more conservative stations and commentators...I mean...pundits!!! There's not enough of them!! :p FOX NEWS RADIO! YES!!! BILL O'RILEY, SEAN HANNITY AND RUSH LIMBAUGH ALL DAY, EVERY DAY!! and a dose of Ann Coulter too....
In actuality, I haven't really listened to Air America, I don't know if it's any better than Fox News. I don't think you can take those guys, esp Jerry Springer and Al Franken, seriously, nor all of those consertative pundits on Fox or various radio stations. If both sides can get more serious commentators and radio hosts and stations, then it would be much better. The conserative side isn't any better...and I lean more towards being a liberal, but i'm more moderate. My beef though is that there are TOO many conservative commentators and radio hosts out there, there's hardly anyone who you can take seriously as a moderate or a liberal, only a few journalists. |

No I do read the newspaper and watch movies, i'm talking about on the radio/newstations, there's WAY too many conservatives. I said I knew there were quite a few promiment journalists who are liberals, like EJ Dionne, Richard Cohen, Anna Quindlen, Molly Ivins and Maureen Dowd. |

Journalism should never be about pushing your own political ideas....but that very basic concept has long been forgotten   |

No it shouldn't be, however the point of commentators or editoralists is about that...saying your opinion. Delivery of the news, yes, it should be objective and non-biased, but editorals/op-ed is just that..opinion. The thing with Fox, is that it's blurred the line between making commentary and delivering the news, which is wrong. But when doing a commentary or editorial or a talk show, it isn't about delivering the news objectively, but making comments about events happening in the news based around your own beliefs or the beliefs of your viewers.
Air America, and syndicated conservative talk shows, they aren't news, they are political talk shows. So in other words, it's another type of journalism. Not all journalism is objective, and I think more of these talk shows are for entertainment purposes, but not real look at what is happening. What I think there should be is a more moderate stance, looking at both sides of the issues and then trying to form an opinion based around that. But it's true, that there are an overwhelming amount of conservative talk hosts, on TV and on the radio, and not enough liberal, progressive or moderate. |
