Listening as I go:
Sounds more like epic to me with the bassline the way it is. The only thing techy about it is the character of the kick, which is even questionable.
The hypnotic synth line in the background could use some more variation. I see that cutoff is tweaked a little near the 2:00 mark, but I'm not sure if that makes it more listenable or not. True, you do not want to make it an acid line, but something should probably be done.
At about 2:40, the additional hypnotic synth line that presents itself is ingenious. It harmonizes with the current synth-rif quite well, and the bassline changes with it. This is stating to sound far more like epic trance.
THe kick is starting to get really muddy. Their are quite a few muddy bass frequencies, and the kick itself has virtually no phatness in the middle or high-end. If you want the kick to stand where it is, you are going to have to subtract some bass from other elements. This is especially true of anything "Tech" because the kick is so vital in techno.
Sort of an empty breakdown, it does little else than provide a break. The elements that are added are actually a tad annoying at first, but they get better when the rythm manifests itself the second time. Otherwise, the synths themselves are starting to sound a little dry or cheap. I can't put a finger on it immediately, but the pulsations were a tad annoying before the rythm and other elements drowned it out.
6:40-6:55, there are a few ackwards spots with the rythm. THe outro got the job done.
Interesting piece. I'm not sure if I'd classify it as tech trance. The bassline was too prescent, the kick lacked a distinct punch, and the synths sounded more like mid-90s trance with a few extra vibes thrown in. |
