Hey boys and girls and those of you who haven't yet made up your mind..

Here's my latest tune : [p.e.g] - nomad (192Kbps mp3)

It's meant to be energetic club trance with an uplifting feel, and I'm happy because it sounds like something I'd like to dance to in a club - something I've been trying to focus on recently.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the tune and any suggestions so I can tweak the tune to its final version.

Hope you enjoy and please feel free to leave any comments you like :)

Great arp bassline...I like your work with percs.
~02:20 great.... that melody synth must be layered!

I don't like that place in about 03:01...there need more percs and everything...because there is theplae when you climb on the edge and see everything around... ;)

Nice track..but you can better with this! so keep up with work on this :)

Birdie!

Cheers for the comments :) I realise there's nothing terribly memorable about the melodies etc. but I just wanted to do two things - make a tune that has loads of energy and is trancey in the way that trance is hypnotising, not necessarily something too melodic this time. Not every song needs to be an epic monster :disbelief
linkmage - i tried putting stuff in at 3:00 but i reckon after all it sounds better cutting right back. i'll think about it, thanks for the comments

I have to agree with Subtle, although I'll try to be a bit less direct :p

Production-wise this track is spot on, all of the elements sit well in the mix. As for the melody/harmony, I must admit it is slightly less memorable than your previous track. I was talking to someone on msn and kind of forgot to listen to the track, I had to put it on repeat. When I listened more carefully though, I did notice some very interesting details, so it's definitely a good track. In my mind it'll work better as a set builder rather than a peak time bomb.

Great stuff though, keep up the good work :)

I'll try to be as critical as I can be in one listening session here. I generally hate 'happy' trance, but this, overall, does pretty damn well.

Listening ...

- I don't think this is 'uplifting' trance at all. It's fairly dark which is a good thing.
- Sounds like what Robert Nickson would produce if he's sitting at home in the middle of a very long rainstorm :D. Or, similarly, what Christopher Lawrence would spin if he's in a happy mood.

The production, generally speaking, is very well done. Kick is very clean. I do think the mid level frequencies are a bit overloaded. Most of the elements are usually fine, but there are some places (I'm thinking around the 2 minute mark with the synths) where it starts to drown out some important parts. The major reason, in my opinion, is that the bassline is too high and you have to fight to hear the other elements through it. By the 5:30 mark or so the mid range frequencies definitely get crowded again. Would it work to drop the bassline by an octave or eq it so the lower frequencies come through comparatively stronger?

Unlike some of the others here I like your melody quite a bit. It's nothing too complex but is definitely hypnotic. A lot of epic trance melodies may be more 'complex' but they sound more spastic than musically interesting: this is more musically interesting. The slight modulation at around 4:00 is nice.

Arrangement problems: I think you go into the breakdown at 2:00 a bit too early. Needs another 16 bars, i think. Likewise, you get out of the breakdown a bit too fast at 3:00 and it sort of kills the energy. I know what you're trying to do, but you need more perc work and a much greater contrast in volume levels to pull it off. One idea: instead of bringing back the kick in full at 3:00, bring it back except cut everything except the lowest frequencies so it sounds like a single bass note (e.g. like the breakdown in Sandler - Theme Song). Gradually increase the frequency cutoff from 3 to 3:30 then. Mightwork a bit better.

Anyway, not bad at all. ;)

Some how i agree with the poster above me. I think the melody is quite nice, it caught me. Especially at the 4 minute part. And imo this can be something good if you add the missing element on the climax. The thing that makes it memorable.

However few more things.

The start of this song till break is not intresting enough. Imo its not building to anything. Just the beat and the synth till the break.

After the break it goes back agian where it started. It's there is where you need to tweak and kick in where the 4 minute part start (love the bass key changes)

The midrange is dominating to much i agree on that.

Some remixing might bring out something nice with these melodies :).

Good luck

The previous poster was spot-on concerning the melody. I love it to bits, and am a fan of epic-trance anyways, so I am biased.

However, this mix was very well recieved to my ears. This is after listening to DI.fm for HOURS while writing a research paper. Because the fidelty of the piece comparing to what I was listening on the radio, I applaud your mixing.

However, I hate to admit it, but the melody almost sounds like a rip off of "2 players, signant" or some plastic angel mix of "signant". I love that melody to pieces, and I guess that's part of my affection to this track.

Very well done... I always look forward to anywhint with [peg] in the title.

...meh...I dunno what they're talking about. This is great! SUPERB. Your skills are evident, especially in the mixing. Great volumes and levels all round. Didn't think that the melody was EPIC, but it was pretty good.;)
