Mixing + *whoosh* sound.

Ok so here's my little rant. I don't know much about dj'ing and mixing, but I HAVE been into electronic music for quite a while and i've heard my fair share of tracks/mixes. Now one thing that i've noticed about sets (especially prog. trance sets) is that most of the mixing is done using that damn *whoosh* sound effect. All i ever hear from even big name DJ's like Armin, Markus and Above & Beyond is the track will be playing, then a really miniscule build up, that *whoosh* sound, and then the drum and/or the bass line of the next track. Now don't get me wrong, i think it's perfectly fine for some transitions, but certain sets i notice that's how more then 75% of the tranistions go.
Please discuss, i'd love to hear if people think the same as me, and i'm i'm wrong, let me know too :).
P.S No insult to the DJ's out there, you're all awesome :toothless ! |

| sometimes it's phaser, but usually, the outgoing track is produced to have that whoosh effect toward the end of each phrase as the layers are being removed. |

| are you talking about low or high pass filter? if used correctly (and sparingly) it can be a great effect. |

I think this is mostly due to the sound of existing tracks.
For instance, I've heard armin and pvd both mix from Aalto -5 into Armin - Control Freak (svd remix) multiple times and the way they usually will mix it is line up buildups in the track so that you get this really intense build up, then effectively create a high pass filter by eqing, turning the lows down on both tracks with the rising pitch/intensity of the two tracks building up, which creates a huge woosh, and then at the precise moment that control freak (svd remix) drops, or at least the moment before, drop all the freqs back in so that the chunky son of a bitch just floors everyone.
I think it has most to do with similar effects in the tracks themselves and secondly layered on top of eachother by DJs who play these tracks. |

| Yeah, it's simply the way the tracks are made. I rarely hear dj's highpass or flange over 75% of mixes. |
