VERY WEIRD ableton problem...

note: i posted this in the DJ booth as well, as both DJs and producers use ableton. i hope it's not too much trouble and the mods don't mind, as i really need help.

just got my new PC, and installed Live 5.0.1 on it, now, i'm getting some weird problems.

i was running Live on my dad's PC, because mine sucked. he's running 256mb of RAM on an Athlon64 XP 1700+. Live ran with no issues whatsoever (took a bit to load tho).

my PC is rocking an Athlon64 X2 DualCore 3600+ with 512mb. Live loads pretty damn quick, and analyzes files quite fast as well. then when i try to play them, the sound itself is a bit 'filtered' (as opposed to when i play the same file in Winamp for example). and i also get a buffer-underrun type sound, even when i have both buffers at full.

all demo tracks/sets play perfectly, and sound perfect. i'm trying to use the tracks i use to spin in Live s i can mess around a bit with a couple of them, and they are the ones giving me trouble.

anyone have any insight? originally, it sounded bad, but since i tried tweaking the buffer settings it's just plain awful.

update: i uninstalled Live5.

friend brought over his copy of Live6. we install.

most of my mp3s won't even play. Live reports them as possibly corrupt. sometimes, it will play a file, and then refuse to do so later. out of the few files that play, some play perfectly, others all filtered as i had previously mentioned.

i tried to narrow down my possibilities, as to constant or variable bitrate, neither of which seem to influence this behavior. anyone?

PLEASE help.

There's a good FAQ section for audio problems. Otherwise if you're really stuck you can use the contact link for direct help from Ableton themselves.

problem solved by installing latest version of quicktime, as suggested by a good fellow at abletonlivedj.com forums.

if it ever happens to you, now you know what to do...
