congrats Groundline. To my defense (in terms of the low scores), i didn't consider this a hard contest, i considered it a diverse contest obviously i was wrong, nothing matters now really. note tho, this is music i listen to on a regular basis, if i wanted to make it proper hard, then you would have heard more obscure stuff than some of the tracks here.
the tracks then
01 Last Rhythm - Last Rhythm [Unique JakeC]
Italian houseclassic from 1991, and have had alot of remixes by the likes of way out west, sure is pure & jimmy gomez. this was recently resurrected by renaissance with remixes by Martin Ten Velden and Parham & Plaze
02 Faithless - Woozy
Taken from the beach soundtrack, this is a nice techy acidy track.
03 Michael Jackson - Liberian Girl
Of course that is Wacko Jacko's moanings. This track was taken from his album Bad, which is imo the last album that he did before he went really . Brilliant production by Quincy Jones and a funny video aswell
04 Lucca & Chris Cowie - T-Gnosia
Czech technodj (& hottie) Lucca has teamed up with the legend that is Chris Cowie for plenty of cuts, this one is a fierce techno banger.
05 Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha (Norman Cook Remix)
If you didn't know this you must lived under a rock in 1998. The original was a mellow poppy track, but Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim takes the track and infused his touch to it. And the result was, well, a top10 hit.
06 Silicone Soul - The Mephisto Waltz
This one is a nice techy houser with a lovely guitar. Taken from Scottish label SOMA's compilation SOMA200
07 Charlie May - Feeding The Hand That Bites
Probably my favourite cut of the underrated Bug EP. Solid progtrance done by the master himself
08 Submarine - Sunbeam (Deepsky Remix)
I actually remember downloading this of TA's Tracks page like in 2001/2002 or so. This is a nice slab of trance by the Deepsky boys
09 High Contrast - Return Of Forever
My favourite High Contrast track, such a smooth production & punchy bass along with amazing string work.
10 General Midi - Tentacled
Released in 2003 on the Kilowatt label, nice rough trancish breaks this one
11 Van Eyden & Chris Hampshire - Futuristic (John Askew Remix)
Askew made a nice acidy workout of Eyden & Hampshire's original. Very driving & sharp.
12 Akabu - Phuture Bound (Âme Remix)
German duo Âme is pretty much on a roll atm, this remix of Dave Lee (Jakatta/Joey Negro/Akabu)'s Phuture Bound has been a constant favourite of mine ever since i heard Lawler play it in the summer of 2006.
13 DJ Sandy vs. Housetrap - Overdrive (Steve Lawler's We Love The Terrace Remix)
I admit, this is was a bit cruel to put the sample in the groovy break of lawler's 2002 remix of this monsterhit. Listen close and you hear two spoken words. Overdrive & Space, the latter explains the remixtitle as the Terrace at club space in Ibiza (on sundays) was Lawler's Resedency for a long time.
14 Joint Operations Centre - Elevator Dance Off
J.O.C = John O'Callagahan. Just released recently this track is a nice driving techy banger
15 Phunk-A-Delic - Rockin (Marco V Bootyrockingmix)
Taken from Marco's latest mixcd, this rework is almost as good as the first time he remixed rockin (but then with under his studio companion Benjamin Bates' name)
16 Juno Reactor - Hotaka (Thomas P Heckmann Remix) [Unique JakeC]
Heckmann does a corker of a remix of Ben Watkin's Hotaka, has a very stripped down fast psy-tech feel to it. Massive stuff
17 The Kelly Project - Slow Motions
They're mostly known as Zoo Brazil or Laid, and this was released on Plastic City earlier this year. As the b-side to an absolute wank vocal track.
18 PMT - Gyromancer (Stanton Warriors Remix)
Gyromancer, who could escape it during 2000 and years that came, everyone played it regards to genre. 2005 came the remixes of it by Stanton Warriors, Elite Force & Dirk Technic
19 Jakatta - American Dream (Commie Remix)
This was also yet again a bit cruel. Commie's remix was one of two trance reworks that MOS ordered up for American Dream. Lucid's remix was terrible but Commie hit it right on the spot with his driving remix. American Dream samples two things, Stacey Q's 80's tune "Two of hearts" and the main theme from American Beauty composed by Thomas Newman. It was rumoured that MOS paid a truckload of cash to clear the Thomas Newman sample.
20 Rah - Glow (Airbase Remix) [also would have accepted Moogwai - Neon (Airbase Remake)]
Airbase originally made this as his remix of Neon but Moogwai/Platipus did not want to release it but they were still interested of the track and signed it along and it was released on the imprint Platipus Euro.
21 The Roots feat. Cody ChestnuTT - The Seed 2.0
American Hiphop project The roots remade Cody ChestnuTT's The seed and turned into the hit that it today, good tune.
22 Rhythm Slaves - I Can't Feel It (Lawnchair Generals Remix)
US house producer Rhythm Slaves' first big track here reworked by the Lawnchair Generals. Don't have to much to say about the track other than it's good and if you take a close listen you will notice the backbone of this one is completely built from the first bars of Spiller's Groovejet.
23 Cosmo Kid - Neon Pressure (Haak Remix)
Norwegian Haakon's killer remix of the man with 8000 (well sorta) monikers M.I.K.E.'s 2005 track Neon Pressure
24 Michael Gray - The Weekend (Nic Fanciulli Remix)
Nic Fanciulli of Skylark fame redid this big discohouse hit into a rough, tough housey banger. Awesome work by the bloke
25 Peaktwins - Hypnowaves (Castaneda Remix) [Unique Aabech]
Killer track this one, both sides of the vinyl was immense but i liked Castaneda's version more.
26 Oasis - Champaigne Supernova
"Someday you will find me, caught beneath the landslide, in a champagne supernova in the sky", one of Oasis best.
27 Client - In It For The Money (Grand National Remix)
Grand National who you most know by Talk Amongst Yourselves as remixed by Sasha to his involver cd, reworked this one and it's good stuff, has that nice trashy rock/house feel that is so in at the moment
28 Sontec - The Locko Train
Robert Babicz, a man who knows how to tweak the silverbox (tb303) to a great length produced this 10minute dirty acid techno monster.
29 Lamb - What Sound (Tom Middleton's Deep Step Remix)
Middleton did his bootleg of What sound and by demand it was released properly and it became a big track. Featured on plenty of compilations & Mixcd's
30 Marcos - India Calling [Unique Prototrance]
Was released recently, good trancer by this uk producer. I'm usually a sucker for anything with a nice Asian flare to it.
31 Each - Street Wise (Jussi Pekka Remix)
Released early this year, Jussi Pekka did a deep acidy rerub of this already quite good track.
32 Gus Gus - Mallflowers
This one has been cained heavily by sasha for the most of this year. It has a nice trancy vibe to it, sound a bit like the Kompakt sound to a degree
33 Shmuel & Choopie - The Love [Unique Psy-T]
This one was Israeli prog producers Shmuel Flash & Choopie's remake of the 90's house classic "Love & Happiness" (by River Ocean & India).
34 Etnoscope - Sunrise
Sweden's own Etnoscope and one of their more known track Sunrise which features vocals by a girl that used to be on a program called "Fame Factory" (basicly Pop Idol but worse really).
35 M.I.K.E. - Deepest Jungle
Originally released in 1998, and rereleased in 2001 as on the Future Platform EP and then remastered in 2004 on the best of EP. This is a darker tribal cut with does well in trance, house & techno sets as proved by danny tenaglia on his Athens GU.
36 Ananda Project - Suite Dreams (The Timewriter Remix)
I was a bit suprised that noone atleast attempted to write Sweet dreams as the title or whatever. This track was released this early this year and is a class rework of an already great track.
37 Slam - Visions (Vitalic Remix)
Vitalic did a very interesting renditon of Visions, whom featured vocals by Dot Allison. Vitalic first did a name of himself by releasing the Poney EP on Hell's IDJ Gigolo label and giving out a fake bio which consisted of him being of ukrainian descent and working as a gayprostitue in berlin. After 2005, the cover was blown and he told that it was all bull and that he was of french decent and had never worked as a hooker ever.
38 Jose Gonzalez - Crosses (Jori Hulkkonen Remix) [Unique JakeC]
biggest track of 2005 for me, it's such a class rework of Hulkkonen, who keeps the feel of the original while injects a beat that doesn't interfer with Jose's lovely vocals.
39 Syncopix - General Hospital
released on London Elektricity's Hospital label in 2004, this track is a bright & jumpy liquid funk cut.
40 Martin H - Tromb
Latest track from swedish/polish producer Martin H, this is a monster tune and has been cained by Digweed amongst others for most part of the summer.
41 ATFC - Fall Down (ATFC's Thunderous Dub)
This one was Turkish/UK producer Aydin Hasirci (ATFC)'s bouncy 2004 house track with a nice funky guitar. The vocal version featured frequent vocalist Inaya Day.
42 Trance Generators - Wildstyle Generation (Klasic & Sanders Remix)
Klasic & Sanders made something hard & thumping out the original TG track which had a vocal sample lifted of an old Klubbheads record. I Don't usually like hardstyle but i like well made Hardtrance (which this really is), and this one is hard as nails, and they also had the decency to just use a small fraction of the horrible vocalsample and then distorted it.
43 System F & Armin van Buuren - Exhale (Armin van Buuren Remix) [Unique Limin_Li]
If you only listened closely, the melody was there, in the background.
Armin's version had the small breakbeat section in the breakdown which was pretty well done piece.
44 Plummet - Damaged (Antillas Remix)
Yes, it's so cheesy, but so good, also the most id'd sample in the contest.
45 DuMonde - God Music (Flutlicht Remix)
Reverb & Natron's rendition of god music was the only one i liked, it was more well done than the cosmic gate mixes or the original version.
This was the second most id's sample
46 Kobbe & Leeds pres. The Pressure - Daze
This one was one of the best trancers in 2004, shame it didn't get the exposure it deserved. The break in this one features a sampled speech by none other than Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction Fame.
47 Minimalistix - Close Cover (Filterheadz Remix 2)
Filterheadz' rerubs of Minimalistix tracks was a weird one, really, they never kept much of the original. The only thing that was left from their Close Cover remix was the bassline. Nice proggy trancer tho.
48 Bas & Ram - The Bells
Dutch duo Bas & Ram released this one earlier this year, and it featured as the title suggests some bells, nicked straight out of Quench's 1993 classic Dreams.
49 Modjo - Chillin
This was the follow up to the monsterhit "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)", had a cool video with some disco bowling. i thought more people would have gotten this one, only three id'd this one.
50 Aphasia - Acapulco (Chris & Kai's Acid Island Trip)
Before Hooj closed down in 2003, this was the last release, original released on RITM's hallucination ltd label, then picked up by Hooj, and was given a breaks remix by Sean Q6 (Cusick) and two Rerubs by Chris & Kai. This one is a nice proggy house track with great tribal infulences.
51 Fatboy Slim - Everybody Needs A 303 (Plump DJs Remix) [Unique Groundline]
the original was Norman's first big hit, and the Plumps reworked it for this years Greatest Hits compilation. A great punchy acidy breaks workout.
52 Pete Heller - Big Love
If you hadn't heard of this one you where probably living under a rock in 1999. Played everywhere by everyone and their mother. Yet again suprised that it was only id'd by three persons.
53 Max Graham vs. Starecase - Love The Bomb [Unique Prototrance]
Besides Bar None, this is my favourite track by Max Graham (& Starecase), this was released back in 2000 on Bill Hamels' Teknology Label.
54 Kings Of Leon - Red Morning Light
First track of Kings of leon's first album, good track, the break in the track is nice because you got to have more cowbell.
55 Black Pearl - Baracuda
This darker trancer was produced by Martin Buttrich and was cained a bit by Sander K. The track was released on Timo Maas' label four:twenty in 2004
56 Mark Norman - Total Seduction
Good track from the two dutchmen, it's funny that still people think it's one person who is Mark Norman.
57 Compuphonic - Placid Corporation (Spirit Catcher Remix)
Released this year, and the original was wank but, the Belgians that is Spirit Catcher turned it out and made a nice house track of it with a nice italodisco vibe to it.
58 Jamie Lidell - Multiply
Jamie Lidell is probably the funkiest whiteboy alive. Mostly because he is really white but sounds so black it's scary. Lidell produces everything on his own and his 2005 album "Multiply" released on legendary Imprint WARP is nothing short of genius
59 Swain & Collingwood - Never Be The Same (Globe & Swain Remix)
Multitalanted Kevin Swain produced a killer original but it's Swain & Dark Globe's rework that was my favourite version. A punchy techy progger.
60 Meat Katie & Elite Force - Divine (Hardfloor Remix) [Unique Psy-T]
Hardfloor's sound is distinctive as ing , and they really don't have plans to change it. This one was a rework of Meat Katie's & Elite Force's breaks tune Divine, which hardfloor transformed into a good acid house tune. |

Holy e! I guess people just forgot about this one...
I'm quite swamped right now, but should be able to have something up soon. And I promised to make it hard when I win properly, not that I feel like I won properly this time... |

| Prototrance |
Wow!! I know a lot more tracks than I got on the contest. I think it is clever / mean placing of samples that did it.
I shall return......................
Edit - BTW whats this unique id thing? My username is against the two tracks I Id'ed but I don't have a unique ID score.
Sorry - this was my first contest!! |
