well all I can really say is that Behrouz and Carl Cox BOTH were ing awesome. I recognized several songs that Behrouz played, but almost nothing that Carl Cox played (one or two songs near the end is about it, really). I got to Ruby Skye at around 11pm, and from then it was 6 straight hours of pure goodness. Behrouz had a few iffy moments near the beginning but then he turned it on and played a monster of a set that warmed up very nicely. Carl Cox picked up straightaway from the energy Behrouz had built and just slammed one tune after another until they closed.

was anyone else besides me there, or were you all too worn out from Lawler?

I got there just after 11. Hadn't seen Behrouz in forever and he played a decent opening set, and the big man took over with bangin' tracks right from the get go. Such a crazy weekend!

I've heard Behrouz like 25-30 times and he bored the hell out of me everytime except once.

Know some people really love him, including some very well known DJs/producers (like Danny Tenaglia), but I think he's bland. Remember one time it sounded like he was playing the same track for a whole hour.

Anyhow, glad to see he did OK last night.

well to each his own taste, I enjoyed it though, and it was a really good lead-in to Carl Cox' set (which I think is just as important for an opener as their set itself).

I am super, duper critical of openers. It's up to them to make the mood going into the headliner just right. I always point out whether I think an openers set was good or bad, and how it was in relation in providing momentum into the headliner.

I've heard great sets by openers in the past but doing a good job leading into the headliner is another thing.

And for most of the times when I've experienced Behrouz, he failed on both to me. I just couldn't get into his sets on their own plus his style of music leading into the headlner was just a complete mismatch, IMO. It was him usually leading into trance acts, or semi-trance acts. Might as well have had Mark Farina lead into John '00' Fleming!

And maybe that's why I also didn't like him on those nights either. Because my mood was set for the headliners trance, and I never could agree that his style was appropriate as an opener.

I do remember once when he opened and closed for Oakenfold I thought he was great. On his own. Because Oakey sucked, lol. But it seemed like Behrouz's set had progression that night while on the other nights I just didn't feel that there was any progression leading into the headliner.

I don't want to say I don't like Behrouz's style, because I do like the type of music he plays. It's just that he never seems to have gone anywhere with it. But maybe that's the style of his sets and lots of other people like it while I don't. Especially as an opening set.

Anyhow, enough ram bling. Watching The First 48 (on Tivo) and just typed all that crapped without looking at the screen really and didn't even realize I had typed so much.

oops.

good night.

WOW,Carl ING OWNED THE PLACE!!!!!! played everything from techno to trance to house....one of the best sets I have heard him play, I rarely stay until 4am but he played until about 4am until the lights came on, people were still dancing like crazy so he countinued to play about another 15 mins with the lights on for the 50 or so people left in the club...MADDNESS!!!!

Carl Cox's set was pretty damn good...too bad I was so exhausted from Lawler's set the night before that I was ready to go at 3am.

Hopefully I recover soon so I can post pics and vids.

Crazy weekend is right -- next up Donald Glaude then Sander K.

PS. I'm still jealous I missed Lawler's 2nd set at End Up :/
