He's been listening to epic trance, he's probably just a fan of epic and not tech or goa/psy and some prog...hence why most of the stuff he probably likes is trance with breakdowns....and he's right, an awful lot of trance that isn't tech, psy or goa and some prog has breakdowns....why people don't seem to like it as much anymore. Some people that just like epic stuff, are more likely to think that vs. people who like other forms of trance or like all forms of trance. I'm not saying what he's saying, just trying to look at his rationale for thinking that. And with his favorite producers being Armin van Buuren, and Milk Inc...yeah someone would think that. |

You're right! I forgot a lot of TA likes Psy Trance and considers Epic cheese. But as a digital DJ that's one way I used to list my "trance" tracks vs others. But also I view hooks, synth and snares important in the classification too.
And yes! Milk Inc is awsome! I agree it's cheese, but some cheese are better than others!
I do like AvB's style and his earlier songs, but his recent stuff are pretty crappy. I think I've leaned more toward Above & Beyond, Gabriel & Dresden and Kayu vs Albert these days. And producer wise I'd have to say Mark Otten, Mike Shiver, and Dj Shah are some my favorites. Anyways enough about me! |

Yeah I have nothing against you or what you said. Other people might, I was just attempting to rationalize what you were saying and why. But thanks for the clarification. I like Mark Otten, and some of Mike Shiver and DJ Shah's stuff. I like epic trance, just as long as it's not so over the top and predictable. Breakdowns can be quite good, when they don't sound so predictable with super saws and theatrics. Micro de Govia comes to mind....he has always produced epic trance with some really cool, more unique breakdowns. I don't like Milk Inc, but they are cheesy all right haha. There more and more people on here who like psy or getting into psy it seems like. I have nothing against them, or their sound, but at home, I prefer listening to the more melodic epic and prog trance. So i'm with ya there. I didn't mean for my comment to sound rude or anything, I was just making a point. There are people who may be only into one facet of trance, and not realize the other sounds, styles or forms of it. |

I'd say there's been significantly more trance made between 96-06 than between 90-95, so it's probably correct to say the breakdown is a feature in the majority of trance records. |

Same could be said for jungle, but you don't see junglists claiming the breakdown is a necessary componant. |

The thread started never said it had to have a breakdown, or intended to say it, it was just interpreted that way. He said most trance, well most trance that he was into (epic) has a breakdown, and this is true. The fact is, some people just say "trance" when they are referring to epic, but that happens to have been the most popular/mainstream trance sub-genre so it's bound to happen. If psy was the most popular trance sub-genre, i'm sure people would say the same with it and make generalities, and i'm sure people already do. This has happened to me before on here plenty of times....people misinterpreting what I say, so that's kind of why i'm getting in on it. |

Yeah. Most crappiest "trance" does have breakdowns and uplifts. Call that epic trance or poptrance or whatever that commercial is. Fortunately real trance exist too. |
