.. this is a memorable day.
With the help of some other vB forum admins/coders (some with boards over 10 million posts) - I've managed to implement a custom search for the new forums that is so fast it's sickening. (You can search all posts in the database in 1 shot again...)
This is important because vBulletin 3.6 is much more server intensive (overall) compared to the version TA is on now. This search development may offset the requirement of upgrading to a new server, but, I doubt it.
First result is posts, next line is threads.
query 'tiesto ': returned 20 matches of 137773 total in 0.439 sec
query 'tiesto ': returned 20 matches of 5179 total in 0.091 sec
query 'trance ': returned 20 matches of 271058 total in 0.386 sec
query 'trance ': returned 20 matches of 13947 total in 0.082 sec
Even stupid searches are relatively fast:
query 'quote ': returned 20 matches of 1629048 total in 2.321 sec
query 'this ': returned 20 matches of 927209 total in 11.137 sec
...anyways, got some more tinkering to do - specifically removing common words ('this', 'that', etc.)
Hopefully I can enable 3 letter searching, gotta see how it affects performance. |

Well the problem is to take all the features from the standard vb3 look here while keeping part of the old look and having it look familiar.
I'm almost done coding an event forum for any regional area that needs it and then there are some cosmetic changes to the navbars/new post/new reply screens which, to be honest, have horrid defaults in the new version. For example, if you go to view a forum, it jams all the users viewing it at the bottom - if there are 75+ ppl in a forum, it'll be a complete jumbled mess down there - like that has to be moved around.
Anyways, you can go there and try a search, if you like, lol. |
