Clubs/Afterhours in TO....where to start?

Hi Everyone!

I'm not from TO but whenever I get holidays from the freezing North, I usually head to TO for at least one good party (and usually more). I've had a chance to check out a few places (The Guv Complex, The Docks, Film Lounge, Fly and CZ) but would like to check out all the others I've heard of. From what I've seen in other cities, every club usually has something different to offer. Any tips and info on places like Sonic, This is London, Footwork, Hotel and others that I'm sure I haven't even heard of?

It's going to take a lot of visits to make it through the whole scene in TO, so I thought I'd get some tips from people who get to check it out all the time!

My next trip to TO is for New Years and that'll be a really tough one to decide where to go. The only place I'm always guaranteed to go is CZ...I love that place.

Looking forward to hearing back!

it really depends on your musical taste.

If you're into house then Sonic is the place to be. Beautiful club with some great music being played there. They have something big planned for New Years, apparently, so I would keep an eye on the events forum for when the parties for New Years get posted.

Thanks for the links. I'm new at all this and I did do a search, guess I just didn't do it properly.

As for what type of music i like, I like lots of stuff...house, techno, trance and so much more. I've loved the music at all the places I've been to so far (Guv, Film, Fly, teh Docks, and especially CZ). I guess I was just wondering about the other places I listed. I know they sometimes play the same types of music but what makes you want to go to one place over another? Example: Why go to Footwork over This is London, and vice versa.

I'm sure most are amazing and I can't go wrong with whatever I choose. I'm heading to TO again at New Years and I guess I was just looking for some help in deciding where to go this time (before CZ).

Thanks again...

Well to get you updated on what's happening at Sonic.

Starting mid-november, we will be changing our format. Friday nights will be a more 'gay friendly' night, with music being more circuit/tribal and themes that will give the night more of an identity.

Saturday nights will be all about the music. Harder, more cutting edge music brought to you by Carey Britt. He is going to not only bring the great talent he has in the past (Sean Miller, Demi, Chus & Ceballos, etc.), but will also be looking to bring some new hot, undiscovered talent as well. This night will lack the presence of the much talked about 'Car Wash Crew'. lol

If those remember not too long ago, the artists I mentioned above were basically unheard of to the average club goer in this city.... Carey does a great job at catching artists who are on the rise.

This Is London is probably the nicest afterhours club in Toronto, as far as I know. Music leaves a little bit to be desired sometimes, unless they got a guest DJ. The crowd is really...pretentious, I guess you could say. If you're going with lots of friends then definately get table service.

Footwork is my favourite club in the city right now, along with Sonic. Friday nights are apparently crap but Saturdays (when I went) are really really fun. The layout is a little awkward but the atmosphere and vibe is pure underground & afterhours. Kinda reminds me of System when it was still good.

As you've said, Carey has a knack for finding great undiscovered talent (*looks at Demi*) so I'm really looking forward to see what kind of talent he'll bring us in the future.

demi was hardly "undiscovered" when he first came to toronto. he was already a rising star at that time because of a certain individual that took demi under his wing.
