Don't you guys think that all of these "studies" are just a bit too obvious at this point? The obsession the rest of world seems to have with passing judgment on America's social problems seems in many cases hypocritical when one of the biggest complaints people make about American society is the globalization of American cultural values, and our projection of them onto other societies (i.e. bringing "freedom" to Iraq).
Regardless of how often people seem to enjoy pointing it out, there are those of us here in the States who do in fact realize the sad state of affairs that many aspects of our own society are in. I frequently wonder how often people who spend loads of their time criticizing American social issues actually spend critically thinking about their own countries problems.
But then again, American's are an easy target, right? So let's all just take the piss to them... |

It's partly because America has one of the highest incomes in the world and is a very free country. It has the potential to be a much better, forward-moving society however it seems like we're moving backwards sometimes.
To look at a poorer country and say "look at all their problems" doesn't make sense, they don't have the resources to fix their problems.
It is a good thing however that America "exports" cultural values such as democracy and freedom. There are parts of the world like Iraq though that will never completely accept these values solely because they are American/Western. |
