A Danish court orders Internet censorship.

A Danish court has ruled that an ISP in that country must block access to *************, the Russian download site accused of pirating music, according to a story in the Register.

Allofmp3, which has denied violating the copyright law in Russia, has suffered several setbacks as much of the world attempts to isolate the site.

The Copehagen City court ruled that Tele2 must do all it can to prevent users from accessing *************, according to the Register.

U.S. Trade representatives have been pressuring Russia to adopt copyright laws that are more in line with the West's. The U.S. has suggested that unless Russia complies, the country may not be allowed to enter the World Trade Organization.

Last week, Visa and Mastercard announced that they would no longer take payments for the site.

Danish government is just being bullied by the US, the same as with the PiratesBay incident in Sweden.

I'm not sure exactly how the Danish law works but if this web site violates Danish/EU anti-piracy rules I guess it might be allowed to block users access to it, even if it doesn't violate the Russian anti-piracy laws.

But I cannot understand why Russia is slowing down on adopting European copyright laws

That's disappointing but I'm failing to see what freedom of 'Speech' has to do with an mp3 site? :conf:

not....making....connection.....*[buffering]*

^ Yea this looks more like a legal issue and they certainly have grounds to do it. Its gone through the whole Danish court system and its just one site not like a type of sites or any broad generalization. I doubt the Danes would put up with restricting the freedom of anything after the cartoon fiasco.

Doesn't make it any more right, does it? Plus that incident in Sweden almost cost our justice minister his job...

No, because blocking access to it IS censorship! For example what happened in Sweden was that the police confiscated the servers of the Piratebay, because they thought they contained illegal material, no ISP in Sweden was forced by the government to ban access to the site. So since it is not an illegal act to visit the site, it should therefore not be censored out. Prosecute those who download copyrighted MP3s instead (or the ones responsible for the servers), since that's what's breaking the Danish law!

^^^ Sort of agreed. Blocking an ISP is BS and censorship. Take it (the organization responsible for providing copyright material) to court like every other copyright infringment case.

I agree totally.
It's akin to the Net Neutrality problem we're facing.

i think it's more a problem about internet and limits....internet is a big virtual world which sometimes can be used to do actions in real life .....then is internet allowed to do to show everything they want ?i think it's more a problem about fixing limits to intenet which is related here
