with all due respect you indirectly admitted that Mendendez was not under indictment yet but "watch the paper in the next day or two".... here is an excerpt from a Bloomberg article (Bloomberg sources are obviously not told to veer to the left or the right, like other sources, so its basically a third-party view of whats going on, for all of you who dont know)
"Kean had to do something to upset the status quo and he chose to tie Menendez to corruption in Hudson County, a rough collection of blue-collar cities across the Hudson River from Manhattan. He labeled Menendez ``Boss Bob'' and called him ``an indictment waiting to happen.'' (note by DJ Eco: it hasnt already happened)
Kean, said Corzine in an interview in which he lauded Menendez's ethics, ``has to dig up the past to divert voters from the present, the fact that Kean would be another vote for Bush and the war, which are both anathema to New Jersey voters.''
Menendez is striking back. While going after Kean's old money is unlikely to outrage voters, Menendez has put out a list of ``quid pro Kean,'' examples of questionable campaign funds that just might have that effect. He blasted Kean for not supporting legislation to ban smoking in casinos after accepting money from gambling interests.
The senator also accused Kean Jr. of shaking down corporate executives on whose boards the elder Kean serves and who depend on him for their level of compensation, pocketing $62,500 from those executives. Last week, Menendez went after Kean for taking contributions from Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield while voting to give it a tax break.
....
One of Kean's attacks on Menendez's ethics was unsupported by the record. Kean went after Menendez for being part of the corrupt Hudson County machine run by his former mentor, one-time Union City Mayor William Musto, in the 1980s.
Transcripts in Musto's extortion trial and a statement from the prosecutor document the opposite. When Musto realized Menendez was catching on to his kickback scheme, he moved him out of the position where he wrote checks to contractors. The prosecutor praised Menendez for his voluntary testimony -- provided in a bulletproof vest -- that helped send Musto to prison." |

i know Menendez and his policies because im from that "rough collection of blue-collar cities" known as Hudson County.... he is one of the most outspoken politicians against the corrupt past of this area's politics, heres how i look at it....
heres Menendez, a Democrat from a heavily immigrant and minority blue class neighborhood... his names Hispanic.... the area has a history.... what better a move by KARL ROVE and the Republican party machine, than to put a dollpiece like Kean Jr. (father's background, clean cut and not an ugly guy, and hes young, similar to Bush and his background as you can get) to go against this guy?.... it just makes sense, it all fits the same pattern that the genius Karl Rove takes in every election... and you know what? people fall for it... half of New Jersey is probably crapping its pants at the fact that a Hispanic is about to take over the Senate seat, over someone with a name like Kean Jr.... so what better a move for Karl Rove and all his sub-masterminds than to tell Kean Jr. to go on an all-out assault of Menendez's credibility, with allegations and accusations THAT HAVE ZERO LEGS WHATSOEVER. |

a few points
no I wasn't indirect about it at all.... i DIRECTLY STATED menendez was not under indictment, but that he was under a federal investigation. Indictment and investigation are 2 different things... if you dont know what an indictment is Click here
i too live in the area and that has nothing to do with the discussion...
what does karl rove have to do with this discussion? it's well known that keans been talking about running for US senate for years and was just waiting for this election cycle...
with all due respect, you're post is glaringly blinded in your utter contempt for Republicans and it appears that when our discussion, which is supposed to be about the two individuals themselves, you throw out your hatred for Rove
kean, just like his father, is one of the most liberal members of the State senate. |

| well my first few points on the first page were about how he speaks about ZERO issues, went unchallengened, so i felt i had to bring up more sutff on the guy... so i guess ill get back to the candidates... it seems like Menendez has a CLEAR vision of what hes for and against and wants to do when hes in office, with Kean Jr. being exactly the opposite... this is exactly what those who support Republicans usually say against Democrats ("they complain and complain but have no ideas and no stance on issues"... well Menendez does, and what do you guys do? you throw "corruption" and "machine" into the mix because of how solid he is on the issues (and has always been).... the fact is Kean Jr. has no idea what he wants to do and anyone with a brain can see the direct correlation between Rove and the Republic Party full supporting him with millions now, and giving him his every move (at this point in the race, at least)... id like to see one ad where Kean Jr. speaks about issues, one interview where he doesnt run away from the facts... attacking Menendez and his credibility is like his security blanket, its like a nervous tick he always resorts to at every chance, and i cant help but have respect for people whose only beef with Menendez (or so they can say) is his "corrupt past" which may be under investigation, but its all semantics, a million people are under investigation for stuff they probably wont be proven for having done.... but by throwing it into the discussion, Kean Jr. and his mentors are doing a great job at taking the average New Jerseyan and playing with his mind ("ooo... hes under INVESTIGATION?... he must be bad news, lets vote for Kean... on what issues? i dont know, but his dad was good for us, soooo, he must be good")... this race couldnt have been screaming to Karl Rove and the Republican party to be taken advantage of, any more than it has, its exactly what they wanted |

you guys? when did i ever say i was in favor of a particular candidate. or what side of the fence i was on?
I think corruption and ethics and stering taxpayer cash to you and your girlfriends pocket is perfectly acceptable disucssion in a policitcal campaign... especialy since these are the guys who have the power to vote and take money from you through laws...
i never said kean was talking about issues.. but its very important to make sure you're not voting in corupt people just cuz you hate republicans.... |

| no, its not that, its not about how much i dislike Republican candidates... its about one very intelligent man vs. one very unintelligent man... he's a frat boy not fit for office and holds every resemblance to Bush and his climb to politics.... |

ok so its not about your hate for republicans.. its about your hate for the president... and i dont think either of them are unintelligent.. i jsut think kean is going with the coruption angle cuz it resonantes with voters
you're slaming kean as a frat boy, unfit for office, trying to link him to the president... when the fact is, as you've stated, you don't know what he stands for. you should have just stuck with that argument cuz now it apears your motives are truly coming out...
know what else is funny? is how the menendez camp is trying to link kean to Pres Bush because he is unpopular in NJ. when the fact is kean has a very liberal record while bush is conservative.. thats not talking issues is it? that's trying to trick people and mislead them
edit: im enjoying our coversation though. its not often that you get to have civil discussions about politics on these boards, thanks for that... you should come out on 11/9 so we can meet up and have a drink |

yea actually i do, i wanna know what both candidates' platforms are (without bias plzkthx)... i dont know enough about them to vote and i was actually thinking of abstaining (as a choice) from this election because all i've heard are terrible things about both candidates. |

well even the most republican of new jerseyans will admit that kean jr. "started it"... i wish kean jr. would speak about this so-called "liberal record" when interviewed and debating, and maybe i wouldnt feel so unfulfilled as far as a race goes... this isnt a race, this is menendez listing his views and kean jr. attacking him... the same goes for the race in missouri with harold ford, and thus, i cant help but link all these dirty politic republican approaches to one unifying effort by the republican party and heads |
