i remember when ACI first came out with 9mbit residential... i was so jealous. they picked out a few subscribers to beta test their new docsis system and my friend was one of them. well, 6mbit with rogers aint so bad either. |

i could reach my peak (700+ KB/s) with some torrents but that all depends on the number of seeders and number of downloaders and how much bandwidth is available for me.
when rogers extreme was 5mbit, i always downloaded at peak speeds (roughly 590-600 KB/s) with usenet, no matter what time of day. my usenet provider was usenetserver.com. however, there were a couple occasions where my download speeds were total crap (less than 10KB/s) but that was due to poor routing and was fixed usually by the next day. |

yeah, my 9Mbit's fast, but paying for it. It's 50 bucks for cable tv subscribers, and there is no basic or lite option... it's either dial-up with them or full throttle (no pun intended). I do have a cheap wifi router hooked up, and curious how fast plugging it directly in my NIC. |

judging by the speeds you are getting through your wifi, i dont think hooking your box up directly to the router via cat-5e will make much of a difference.
personally, i hate wireless. the only two computers in my house using wireless are my laptop and my sisters.
the other 5 boxes are on a wired lan. |
