Do you believe in Star Signs?

Because i'm a very logical and over analytical person i've always looked upon star signs and those who believe in them with humurous disdain; i have trouble believing anything that i'm not able to verify with the senses or deduce rationally (i've been an atheist most of my life but in the last year or so i've been thinking alot about pantheism and reading into buddhism)

Recently i got showed a book on star signs which explained in depth every sign and each date within every month and i must say it explained some of my core traits very very well (too well to be considered confirmation bias :nervous: ) reading the day after or day before my birthday (or any other date / month) yielded completely different answers that were nothing like me, so while i'm still ambivalent towards the credibility of star signs i'll definately not discount them out of hand like i have in the past.

should i know give creationism a second chance? :stongue:

load of . like religion :p

edit: to believe in star signs you would have to have some logical and rational explanation on how star systems influence you, not when youre in the womb of course, but on that single day that you are born. ing laughable mate. confirmation bias :p

and a logical or rational explanation cannot be made which is why im so ambivalent, i'm going to have to leave my mind open to alternate possibilities a little while longer before i reflexively attribute this to cognitive bias ;)

well, what you should do is acquire another book written by some other astrological guru and see how different this one might be from the previous assessment. and then another. and another.

im hoping youre having a lend of us mate :p

Around 20yrs ago I read a article about "star signs" as you called them, and most of the subjects said the same things as you did. But when the subjects friends/family were asked to describe the subjects traits/ect they reported completely different results as to the subjects traits/ect.

It's all crap

Yet some of the people in power based their lives on what the stars tell them - Reagan comes to mind. Lets not forget God told Bush to attack Iraq.

Down right scary if you think about it.

I am equally intrigued by Astrology. I am from India and believe me, we have some of the most superstitious people around. Astrology has been practiced for thousands of years in this country. Most of the astrologers are IMO fake. But I have had a few experiences where I have wondered what the hell is going on here ? Is there a rational explanation for all this ? Surely something that has been practiced for thousands of years cannot simply be a bluff. I dunno. But too many questions will arise if it is proved that a man's fate is simply determined on the day of his birth.

As far as I know there has been several big studies on this, and none of them have found any proof whatsoever on the patterns of people's lives relating to the star signs, etc. If you knew Swedish I'd show you an interesting article on the subject ;)

So you're loosing your mind :p? Why did you little rational mind feel the need to incorperate something unexplainable via rational deduction :p?
