HouseBeats & I arrived at Sonic around 1:30 am & people were just starting to trickle in. Geoff Kelleway was opening, but I can't say that I was all that impressed with his set. Far too many lulls & not enough layers -- just when he started to get the crowd going, he would stop & bring us back down again -- not an ideal way to start off the night! Honestly, I don't know why Sonic doesn't promote some fresh new T.O. talent for their opening sets... there are so many talented T.O. DJ's that would do a *much* better job given the chance... Jeff Button or Raymond Thomas just to name a few! :) Anybody with me on this??
Danny Torrence came on at about 4:00 and by that time, Sonic was at about 1/2 capacity. Not sure why more people didn't show up for this, especially considering the wicked set he played last time at Sonic, but my guess is that Danny is still relatively unknown in T.O. & people just don't know what they are missing! It's the only reasonable explanation! In any event, the people that did come out for this were there for the music & the vibe on the dancefloor was amazing.
Now, I'm certainly not a technical expert, but from a dancer's perspective I will say that Danny's set just blew me away!! His sound was dirty, sexy & rich in layers... he totally captivated everybody on the floorcrowd, making it hard to leave even just for a second! Danny definitely plays for the dancers... he understands how to keep a crowd moving & never lets it get stale... he even came out onto the centre of the dancefloor to ensure the sound was just right! Gotta love that! :) No doubt about it, he was having a great time playing with Sonic's unbeatable system & did it justice.
Needless to say, we stayed right to the end, which was 8:00 a.m. or so. All in all, an awesome night with one of Montreal's finest. Can't wait to see him back at Sonic very soon! :) |

Well....what can I say. This night HAD TO BE one of my favorite times to date. I wanted to invite the entire city of Toronto so they could all hear the sounds of Danny Torrence..but unfortunately we can't always get what we want. Fortunately...the people that I did invite were certainly not let down. Everyone and I mean EVERY single person I spoke to had nothing but wonderful things to say about Danny's performance, along with the comments I overheard..."who is this guy...he's off the hook"! Thank you to everyone that did come out and finally got to hear the freshest BEST talent straight from Montreal. We all had such a great time and are waiting with baited breath for Danny to return. Big luv to the SONIC family...bring him back A.S.A.P :) I've said it before and I'll say it again..."he is a force to be reckoned with"

Danny Torrence A+
Geoff Krappaway...so bad, so bad...I have never heard so many club patrons complain about a set in my life! People were actually standing on the dance floor in disbelief!
Can't beleive, with all the amazing local talent, that this is the best Sonic could do, for the second week in a row!
For all those who took the piss out of Nevio...you would have been his biggest fan if you heard his replacement!
P.S. Where is Nevio? He was advertised on the line up for the last two weeks and was a no show... |
