My friend argues with me that a virus c is worthless ....

But i always see people paying top dollar for them, so i wonder is he thinks reaktor can do everything and more or better than a virus c? why do people still go paying thousands for a second hand virus c?

any feedback?

thank you!

actually now software (I think) can do just as much as hardware (sometimes in a more flexible or friendlier way) the fact is that many people just like to have something to lay hands on...and twist the knobs etc...

that's my basic opinion about it, I can't compare Reaktor and Virus, since I don't use either of them :)

The virus has it's own unique sound and so does Reaktor. If you built and ensemble that matched the architecture of the virus, then programmed both with similar patches, Reaktor would still sound different. Also, I'd like to see a PC run 16 instances of the Reaktor ensemble the same ease at the Virus can run 16 patches at the same time. Okay, so you might never use all the multi-timbrality of the Virus, but even if you used 3-4 parts, then 3-4 reaktors would go some way to max-ing out a CPU on most production rigs.

Maybe it could replace a less complex synth such as the JP8K (Ross Reaktor ensemble sounds fantastic!), but I think the Virus is just too much of a complex beats with a mod matrix that makes your eyes bleed.

Plus it has knobs :D

I'd think decent ammount of software + hardware controller (you need knobs!!!) > Virus :)

but I don't know...as I said I haven't had a chance to use a Virus...

hardware = less cpu usage....so that might be a reason.

there may be a few things that the virus can do and that reaktor can't but there is much more that reaktor can do and the virus can't. I prefer to work with the nord modular g2 ( better gui and no cpu usage ) but then again reaktor offer more possibilities

reaktor is great
virus is great
both together are awesome

I got reaktor last week and I'm still tripping out! To me, it seems that reaktor can do anything that the virus can and much much more, but the virus has that huge advantage of being off your cpu.
I reckon more and more things will go this way, ie. having hardware which interfaces via vst, focusrite do a liquid channel which looks amazing too. I think it's a great idea to have this for basic sounds that you use in every production and then have the computer for more specific sounds. If your thinking about a virus but like software maybe try the z3ta? I dunno about mod matrix in reaktor, but the z3ta has an amazing mod matrix (to me anyway) or absynth I think is also good for similar things maybe? For a virus C I wouldn't buy... thats just me, I don't think the oscillators are that strong and its got no vsti capability, if I had to go for something with no vsti I would go a nord, But thats just me!

LOL. Lucas York, you're infamous on rave adelaide. Not that I know you, just by your rep and I realy dont care what thos guys think.
I've got a Virus Classic, I've also been told it's crap (by one person) , but fuk the haters I say, if u get a good result who cares hey?
Theres a reason it's received numerous awards for best hardware synth and that's coz it's awesome.
