it takes a lot of people to pack up the place and since fridays are usually closed... you start from nothing
thats probably why they announced it on the sunday instead... beacause they already have a good 800 people that actually come on sundays...
im pretty sure morillo said no to a sunday and wanted the friday...
opera didnt wanna open on the friday... morillo didnt want to play on sunday... so the promoter is stuck with the date and no venue
thats my guess
its still morillo and the place is gonna be rammed |
finally someone who understand well the dynamics of Montreal..rare sight ! |

Yes, indeed... That's the situation of course... But that's what I meant when I said they're hard to work with... If you told them David Guetta or Bob Sinclar, I'm sure they wouldn't had a problem opening up a friday... Besides, what do they have to lose? I'm not exactly sure what the deal with your promo team and the venue is, but if you're covering most costs, then the venue should be the last to complain, they're opening on a closed night and all they have to pay is the staff and to run the place... It's not like they have out of this world expenses... So cheap, that's what dissapoints me about this city... So people try to bring in DJs that people like us know, but since the owners know f*ck all, and don't care bouat the music, and only about their pockets, things like these happen...
Better for you man, if Time took it in... Scew Opera, they will never change... |

Personally, I think many of the opinions expressed in this thread (my own in particular) have nothing to do with an understanding of the scene... We think the party would be better @ Opera.
Doesn't mean it can be at Opera, or that whoever organized it didn't try to get it done @ Opera-
We just think it would be better @ Opera.
I've worked in various cities' scenes and Montreal's isn't much different than any other. You have venues, promoters, sponsors, DJs, and all the other people involved who make a night what it is. Sure it's a shame when you can't have those elements come together the way you want them to, or the way some people would prefer- But you make do.
Looks like you made do. I think I'll go for it.
I just hope there's good crowd control... It could easily turn into a show with a name that big in a smaller venue... Guetta@Opera was packed and I'd say Morillo is a much bigger more established figure. |

Yeah? Sinclar was on a Tuesday and Guetta on a Sunday.
Now there's probably a zillion factors as to why those days were chosen, but we really can't say.
I doubt the tuesday would have worked if it hadn't been so close after the opening of the club. |

| Lol, you'd be surprised at how much french people (no offense to any intended)love Sinclar and all the mainstream people too. To them, Sinclar is one THE man of house, LOOOOOOOOL... But that's ok, they don't know better... I have no doubt in my mind that they will ahve him again ;) |

| Nothing to comment on his musical abilities, but I've heard personal stories from promoters who've booked Morillo in the past, and apparently he is the biggest on the face of the planet. |

Last when he was in Ottawa..he was 1 hr late arriving at Surface cause he didn't like the hotel that the had promoters booked for him so they had book him at another hotel. |

Hummmm, heard comments about Keoki? I'm sure your friends never have to deal with him, cause they would think Morillo is a sweet heart beside him :whip:
Your guess Louis or the result of a conversation you had with a body of ours working @ Opera? loll Dont want to discredit you on this one, but hey come on man...;) |

| Well, I haven't heard Morillo's sets in quite some time, but from what I heard about people in New York and New Jersey as well as in Europe, his sets have almost nothing but old tracks... |
