Easy answer.
The burnt setting was imposed by bread makers!
They needed a way for people to screw up making toast so they would there for spend more on buying more bread.
Just think about how many slices of bread is wasted daily on the fact that somehow, the damn knobs magically moves to "burn to a crisp" and how much extra money the bread companies make.
It's a big conspiracy!!! |

How about different types and thicknesses of bread? A dark rye as thick as a Texas Toast would need that high setting, wouldn't it?
I also find eggos need a higher setting too, OH... and hash browns. |
