I agree, at least start cutting down the amount of troops we have over there, bring them home 6 months-1 yr, and rotate the divisons, we really dont need 170,000, too much
I think so too... but they are milking a dry cow.

Actually, that was the problem, there should have been 2-3 times as many troops to start with.

What do you guys think about this? Why now - After defending Rumsfeld for so long, why is it suddenly his job to step down?
Exciting day for Americans today... :toocool:
Politics. It was no secret that "stay the course" was not working (even the administration knew that) and it'll become official once the results of the Iraq Survey Group is released. But getting rid of Rummy before the election would have been an admission of doing something wrong.

idk...never been a bit fan of kofi annan
Ki-moon's nickname in Korea is "administrative-clerk". Somehow I doubt he'll be another Dag Hammarskjöld.

Second secretary general who started off the job wielding a lot of influence and used it to resolve a lot of crises during the 50's. He created the UNEF. His successor, U Thant, was also pretty good.

Wow you really know all about Iraq huh?

i don't understand why people think that this is going to change anything right now. what, so with rumsfeld leaving, we're going all of a sudden pull out of iraq....isntantly? [and everywhere else we're stationing people overseas? ]
chances are people that are not in the military [or know someone in the military] will not see any difference in your day to day lives.
and honestly, me being in the military, this won't affect me either way.
new boss, new day.

I think I'm happy not so much that he is being replaced, but more so that Rumsfeld's idiocy will no longer have a say in the direction of this country. Things might not change and Gates may not be much better, but at least I wont have to put up with Rummy's pathetic speeches and press conferences anymore...

That would be fine and well if he was tried in the U.S., but if the international community decides Bush deserves to be tried, a U.S. pardon will do all to protect him. :)
Yah, I bet they'll pwn Bush just as hard as they did after he invaded a sovereign state illegally. Oh wait. I'd say the iraq war is proof the UN is defunct and failed in its objective :(
